Amazing I came to laugh at awesome megaprojects. And I end up learning every physics term associated with black holes.

Actually as a megaproject, we should create a star, just so we can collapse it into a black hole.

It really isn't that bad, man... as I said, I'll do my best.  The language really isn't that technical.

...it's not? Crap. I'm in trouble.

Hey, don't worry.  I'll do my best to make everything clear, and maybe we can all learn a little something about black holes on the way.

That's cool. I'm a martial arts nerd, not a science nerd (no matter how hard I try,) but everything I learn is a good thing, in my book.

Yeah, I've ran into more than one Black Hole Denier. One of them even said that they thought black holes were really just blinds in space used by humans having time traveled from the future to keep us from seeing them. He also claimed there was "no evidence" that black holes as we know them exist.

I was stupid overloaded out of a coherent response.
It would actually be decently plausible, if you take out the human bit and put in something... 'other', existing outside our universe's temporal blah blah nonfalsifiable bullshit. That is, if it weren't for the fact that information still appears to be conserved going into the hole.

But that could be extratemporal space dust thrown back out of the holes in exact proportions to the amount that our physicists expect.

BLACK HOLES ARE GODPANTSwizards. +1 conspiracy theory

Project: Build a techno-mountain. Over the next ten years, when people upgrade their computers, we take functional old models and plug them all in, then place them all into the pile. Computational power unparaleled.

It still couldn't play DF. Parallel processing doesn't work on everything.

Though good idea.

Not everything is about DF.

Clever, I like it. What better to do with older hardware than keep using it :)

@black hole discussion: although I don't have anything to add (reading a lot of wikipedia), i'm enjoying reading the discussion ;)

We already do that. Sorta. Distributed computing projects like Seti@home and Folding@home are comparable to the idea. And you don't even have to pile anything.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantropa

Dam the Strait of Gibraltar and the Bosporus.
Lower the Mediterranean sea level significantly.
? ? ?
Profit.

I think this is really amazing, and would be helpful now.

Who's responsible for leaving this at the bottom of the Atlantropa page?

EDIT: Since most people on the internet are fifteen year olds with no attention span who won't even notice the link, I will also make it very clear: It's the Wikipedia Article for Megaproject.

Here is a list of all the Megaprojects the Human Race has already built:
