You're assuming the labor is going to be useful. Most of the available labor is of insufficient quality to produce megaprojects. We'd also need communism to perform these megaprojects.

We won't really have a human mega project for some time, we really need to sort out national problems before we can become a global entity.

But yes, I agree that we need a megaprojects of sort. Maybe that'd be the catalyst for the beginning fo something better.

That in itself would be a megaproject. Though, to a political scale.

World Unification. That in itself is a megaproject. The UN alone can only do so much however. We need more ways to make it a reality.

Okay okay, let's start simple.  We need a megaproject that can use all the unskilled labor in the world, and still look awesome.

Let's do this the old fashioned way.  A pyramid.  A pyramid that pokes right out of the breathable atmosphere.  With an escalator on the side, so you can build space-stations on top of it and just shove them off to whatever orbit you want.

Terraforming Venus is probably close to impossible.  The surface of Venus is astoundingly harsh... and it's hotter on Venus than on Mercury.  Mars would need its magnetosphere restored to protect its atmosphere from solar wind, which would probably require restarting its volcanic activity (I think).  Definently a MEGA project.

I think we could terraform Venus if we generated our own mini-gamma ray burst to blast a hole in its atmosphere. And if we found a way to seal that hole when enough of the planet's gasses had leaked into space so that it would have an atmospheric pressure of 1.00. Then, we would have the (comparatively) simple task of replacing Venus's Carbon Dioxide-Nitrogen atmosphere with a Nitrogen-Oxegen one.

From there we would only have to introduce water, flora, and fauna to make it Earth-like.

Both problems solved! Venus' atmosphere will be blown away, Mars can then retain one.
