Alright, I'm thoroughly confused.  Trooper, what tileset were you using?  Vanilla and Mayday both produce something I can't play in.
You need to copy the raws and save data to your own version of 20.12. I got this error from the original game:

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

Oh I'm sorry, I should have stated this earlier, I use Phoebus Graphics, from the Lazy Newb Pack. I'm pretty sure mono does as well, and that's why my save and his save are completely different from everyone else.

Uhhh, I'm using phobeus. Something in the lazy newb pack/init files doesn't agree with my computer and causes the weird display.

Really? That's odd. I've got the LazyNewbPack[0.31.12][V4.3].

Well, the problem is solved by replacing the init files with the default ones. I haven't bothered figuring out why.

Acually, what happened when I started playing is that the tile symbols for everything were switched around.  Ore was some type of fish, trees were boulders, sand was trees, stuff like that.

I tried replacing the raws in the region folder, but that made it unplayable.

Edit: Nevermind, I got it to work with the correct tiles.  I'm officially starting now.

The Journal of "GuudeSpelur" Futurelances

15th Slate, 544
Well, the old leader ran off the other day.  An emergency council was convened, and after a a few requests for more hospital supplies by me and a few too many drinks I was appointed overseer of the fortress.  First, I need to come up with a clever title for myself.  Until I do, I guess I'll just have to settle with making the fortress more efficient.

16th Slate, 544
Well, the fortress might actually get some high-quality work done now.  I got everyone to stop drawing lots to see who does each job and instead got everyone to just work on what they're best at.  I also made the military more efficient- having all ten of them in one squad really slowed everything down.  I appointed three more millitia captains to lead three new squads- now we have 2 squads of swordsdwarves and one squad of marksdwarves.  I'll recruit a couple more dwarves soon, right after we've cleared out the goblins hanging outside of the trapped entrance.

24th Slate, 544
Well, we finally broke the siege.  I sent out our finest soldiers in a rush to take out the last few bowgoblins, and they managed to do so while sustaining only minor injuries.  As soon as I take care of them, I'll start work on a big project- a place to execute prisoners.

13th Hematite, 544
Those damn elves showed up last week, demanding that we stop cutting down their trees. I told the mayor (who I've finally given special quarters to, whiny brat) to give them the finger.  We then bought all of the wood their traders bought, along with all of their booze.  In return, they got some useless stone trinkets and a very detailed description on what we're going to do with their precious wood.  In other news, work on the execution tower is underway.  It's not very big, but it doesn't need to be in order for someone to throw them down a pit into our reservoir.  The first floor is almost done.  I'll have someone draw up a picture of it once it's closer to being done.

21st Hematite, 544
Well, I ordered a mining shaft to be dug down deep into the earth, searching for valuable minerals.  We found two things.  One was a large vein of Galena.  The other, well, just take a look:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
After I clear out that Batman colony there, I'll explore it some more with the military (man, those guys are a bunch of jokers).  In related news, work on the second floor of the execution tower has also begun.  I'm also thinking of creating a colosseum near the dining room for special occasions, perhaps with a clear glass wall separating them for the citizen's pleasure?

27th Malachite, 544
One of our hunters was ambushed by a Giant Cave Spider. The military rushed in and took care of it, but it was too late to save him.  In response, I've started putting cage traps randomly throughout the caverns, which should hopefully help keep wildlife down.  I've also started a glass industry, since we've got so much sand.  Our blacksmith has been pumping out some silver statues for our meeting hall to help keep the population happy as well.  The year has been busy but happy so far. I hope it stays this way.

28th Galena, 544
It's autumn now. The execution tower is almost done, and a human caravan just showed up.  A human dipomat dragged the mayor away from whatever it is he does to tell him that he likes our fortress and then ran off.  Weird.  I bought food, booze, and wood from them, pretty standard.  Still haven't seen any danger since that GCS a while ago.  I though that Goblins like to ambush caravans.

9th Sandstone, 544
One of the children suddenly decided to actually do work for the first time in its life the other day, and today...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's worth 19,200.  Interesting.  The child refuses to do work again, though.
Also, the execution tower is nearly complete!  All that's left to do is the roof- once it's done, we can start throwing the goblin prisoners down a shaft into the reservoir!

3rd Moonstone, 544
The execution tower is finally complete!  In celebration, two prisoners were thrown down.  One died immediately, the other broke both its legs and drowned shortly thereafter.  I'll be doing the rest later.  In the meantime, here's a picture of it from the outside:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
It's winter now, so it seems like the rest of the year will be pretty uneventful.  Oh well, at least I've got something to do now.

16th-17th Opal, 544
Two of the citizens popped out a babies girl over two days- cute little things, born with a full head of hair and beards as per the usual.  Since I haven't seen any invasions this year since the one that I came to power during, I decided to create a more effective defensive system to help out the next ruler.  Once it's complete, the pull of a lever will close the main gate and open a winding, narrow side passage that will have ballistae aiming down the various corridors.  Oh yeah, something else I noticed: the dwarf caravan didn't come this year, or if it did no one told me.

17th Obsidian, 544
It appears that I spoke too soon.  Just as I was about to order the construction of the ballistae, three sqauds of goblins attacked, along with a couple of baby snatchers.  One baby snatcher stabbed the head clean off of one of the two new babies and made off with another.  The goblins are rushing directly towards the cage traps and waiting soldiers as I write.

23rd Obsidian, 544
Hah!  Filthy goblins didn't even know what hit them!  We had one fatality (the baby) and two casualties: one swordsdwarf lost his shield hand and another took a nasty cut to the leg.  I'm preparing to fix them up as I write.  We have several new prisoners for the tower.  In other, amazing news, the weaponsmith suddenly got excited and ran off, mumbling something about a weapon of the likes we've never seen before.  The ballistae are nearly complete, along with a well I built to placate several people angry about the goblin corpses in the water supply.  Strange how they don't realize that the well draws from that same source...

30th Obsidian, 544[/b]
The weaponsmith stepped out of the forge today and...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
What and odd name: Witheredguards the Portentous Vines.  It is studded with pig iron and encircled with bands of petrified wood, valuing in at 24000 Urists. Pig iron?  It seems heavy enough, so it should be fine.  More valuably, the weaponsmith is now unmatched in his skills.  New weapons for the military are on the way.  What a perfect way to end the winter.

15th Slate, 555
Well, it's been a year.  In that year, we've whipped the military into a legitimate fighting force, breached the underground caverns, built an execution tower, created a better defense system, fought off a goblin attack, and seen the creation of two legendary artifacts.  It's been very stressful, to say the least.  I've decided to step down from my position as phisiocrat (I told you I'd come up with a cool name for my position) in order to focus on my two true loves: farming and medicine.  Live long and prosper, everyone.

So ends the diary of "GuudeSpelur" Futurelances, supreme Phisiocrat of Primeswords, the Fragments of Fire.

Records of "Trooper" Giginthinkut

1st Granite

The old leader of this fortress has stepped down, and since no one else wanted the job, I've decided that maybe I can offer my insight.

Well, the old leader ran off the other day.

guys, not to be annoying or anything, but
THERE MUST BE SOME CONSISTENCY BETWEEN THE END OF ONE PLAYER AND THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT. NEITHER OF THESE STARTS REFLECT THE FATE OF THE PREVIOUS LEADER
seriously. I'm the only leader who isn't still there.

Uh,I posted my journal like that because the previous player's last entry said:

Today is supposed to be my return to the capital, and there's already another elected official on their way.

That confused me.

Sorry it's slow, I've been really busy lately.  I should be able to plow through the rest of my turn by tonight, though, so don't worry.

Should I repost my journal higher up?
