Re: Fight to the death the second: Round two: Roland Deschain VS Static
« Reply #885 on: November 02, 2010, 08:51:24 am »

I would personally have to call it for Roland, myself.

His aim and reflexes are well beyond superhuman, and his revolvers suffer no accuracy problems whatsoever, due to all craftsdwarfship being of the highest quality.

I've only read the first few Dark Tower books so far, but in the first one, the man in black more or less gets an entire town to go crazy and start trying to kill Roland at once. Roland was out in the street at the time and just started shooting all around himself without even really looking. Killed everyone in that town, never missed a single shot, I believe they were all one-hit headshot kills as well. Reloading wasn't an issue, he's just that fast. It's his life.

I'm pretty certain that if he sees Static before Static sees him, which from what's already been said is definitely the case due to not being a sparking electrical crazyguy flying around loudly, he is going to shoot Static, likely many shots in rapid succession, all of them guaranteed to be lethal if they hit. I don't care if Static is flying or moving at the time, Roland's aim is absolutely supernatural and trivialities like a moving target are not an issue. If Static's reflexes are quicker than a bullet, he may be able to deflect the bullets and save himself, but from what I've seen/read of Static his reflexes are probably just a bit quicker than a normal guy.

Feel free to tear my analysis up all you want, but there's my piece defending Roland. And how much electromagnetic force does it take to stop a bullet before impact, anyway? I'm kinda curious about that actually.

Roland wins due to, pretty much, stealth and surprise alone. Age and experience notwithstanding.
If this was a match against Magneto, however, I'd probably call it for Magneto.

Actually stopping it is a really bad idea. It would take far less effort to divert it. All static would need to do is erect a magnetic field between himself and roland. The further away, the weaker it can be.

I'm not going to accept that static can keep a shield up constantly because:
-It would be be very draining to do so
-To have a shield up very close to him would require a huge amout of energy to maintain. Having a shield up far away from him would be less costly (in terms of energy) per area of the shield, but it would have to cover a much larger area.

I think Static will more likely than not just screw flying around and walk. He can see the list of people on his round and see that at least two are skilled with guns. He might try to fly around for a little bit to spot Sauron, but if the canopy is so thick then he'll quickly realize he can't see anybody through it and go it on foot. This brings his ability to sneak down to acceptable, not purple lightning levels. Then we fall upon the usual problem of who spots who first.

Lol, Swatkats. Been a long time.

Calling it for the xenomorph due to it being a cunning eldritch murder-factory with acid for blood.

I don't like to dispute the game master's decision, but what tipped the scales in Static's favor, anyway? I don't think there was a good enough strategy he could use for a win.

As for Razor Vs Alien... well, it's going to be tough. On one hand, Razor has experience with dealing with this sort of thing - Dr.Viper is a good source of all kinds of nasty monsters, of which Razor once had to a fight through a whole building, alone - and he's highly physically trained to boot, posessing enough agility to at least hold his own against the Alien for a while, in CQC. On the other hand, the Alien can and will evade Razor until he's ready to pounce on him. The Katscanner is useless in this one, because the Alien isn't warm-blooded, and there weren't any motion detectors in the show. Razor also doesn't have any armor, or at least any that would be effective against teeth and claws of that size, not to mention the spiky tail.

In the end, even though I like Razor, I'm not so sure he would win here. To win, he would have to spot the Alien before it attacks. If the Alien tries to attack Razor openly, or doesn't attack immediately after being found, Razor incapacitates it with bola/cement gun/minioctopus missile/just about anything and kills it. If the Alien ambushes Razor or keeps hiding until Razor needs to sleep, Alien wins.

Sorry, I'm afraid that I got mixed up between the two when making that post. Thanks for pointing it out.

-_- Well, from people's repeated assertions Roland cannot and is not allowed to miss, so I guess there wasn't much Static could do. I am nothing if not a... good sport.

Excuse me while I go rip a cat to shreds.

....*MREEOOOOOW-hrk*....

Okay, I'm back. Stress relieved. So, um, Razor vs Alien?

Well, somebody said that The SWAT Kats have puny guns. After I finished laughing, I decided I would say "No, that's just not true." Razor is described as a mechanical genius. He designs all the weapons of the SWAT Kats, and as such knows their workings inside and out. It would take him nothing flat to design a weapon that could be considered deadly for such a competition, and his aim guarantees he'd be able to land a killing blow against any Alien short of a queen. (And I believe we agreed this was the super-drone from the first movie, RAF)

The big question is, will Razor have technology capable of tracking the xenomorph?

Could someone who is familiar with the character describe the kind of equipment Razor would bring to this kind of competition?

Didn't the first alien kill alot of SPACE MARINES?
Edit: After a bit of reading, I realised the alien knows where everyone is always, and is good at sneak attacks and instantly killing.
