This is news?
« on: September 03, 2010, 10:02:25 am »

I was looking at CNN's home page, reading some news articles ( i like to peruse most major news organizations, to compare and contrast reporting of events, to try to get a better handle on what really happened) when I came across this gem, right there in the highlight section, as a hot new article demandng attention.  What was the article you say?  Was it about terrizt?  Iraq?  Iran? Afganistan? Economy? Politics? Immigration? Racism? Religion? Science? The Environment?  Did a volcanoe blow?.........nope!

Here is what CNN considers hot news worthy writing:
http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2010/09/02/rage-against-the-vending-machine/?hpt=C2

I shouldn't be surprised, really, I shouldn't, but I am.  I guess it's my fault really.  I should have known better.

Vending machines are responsible for approximately two deaths annually in the US, and countless injuries ranging from broken bones to wounded pride.

We just seem to be dispensing it at this point. All our antics are only worth a dollar to you guys. I suppose it's impossible to provide some change for this situation.

Vending machine puns aren't going to last us long enough to keep the forum satiated. We have to change gears and up the power to keep this thread on the rails.

Making the train go faster won't keep it on the rails, it'll just make the train crash harder.

You are not thinking grand enough! With enough power we will go beyond the impossible and lift off from the rails that destiny has set out for us. We shall seize the tracks that we chose, not the tracks somebody else sets out for us.

I remember ten years ago, there was an annual death toll of nine, so this is actually an improvement of over 400%.

It also said 'countless injuries', so it may just be that the people who decide to use vending machines as blankets got lucky and just had their kidneys crushed instead of their lungs.

While that may be true, in 2009 they were responsible for more deaths in the US then sharks...Source
