How about taking an action to make fewer specialized or higher-quality soldiers (not legionnaire)?

The naming of our group of soldiers depends on their battle tactics. A horde tends to be loosely organized, and are very point-in-general-direction-of-enemy-and-release. A legion is organized, generally fights in a line, and is well disciplined. Personally, I prefer the legion-type soldiers, which will not be random, and seem a better fit for the mindless beings we are creating.

Though a few berserker types with "Kill everything except master and his creations" mode would be nice.

I'd like to clarify my "read its mind" suggestion. I know I was the one that said to make it mindless, but unless we want to constantly focus on ordering around 1000 other beings like the Cryswarm, they should have enough individual thought to sustain life, follow orders, but not be perfectly sentient.
It would be interesting to see what a pseudo-sentient's thoughts are.

You hit pretty close to what my idea was. not telling yet, though.

Aww... Whatever; build two large fortresses via metamagic, directly opposing each other. Make two each of Tactical Supergeniuses, Infiltration Dudes, Heavy Dudes, Group of Average Guys, and Horde of Cannon Fodder x3, one for each fortress. Brief the Tactical Supergeniuses on the mission of capturing the other castle without losing their own.

Also, develop an avatar who you control directly in addition to your own body.
