it eats the grass under itself instead.

Are you sure, bread? it wouldn't hurt to have everything around the same level.
and dragging a dead body to our tower might raise suspicions.

Icicle off an arm or leg and toss it in the pot with the Cryswarm recipe to see if the whole thing becomes Cryswarm.
If that gets a veto, then try adding a reactive to the body.
