Pick 2 Primary kinds (If you pick Pyro, you can't pick Cryo as your other primary, they're polar opposites. any others are fine), and 2 Tomes as secondaries. You start with 2 ranks in primaries, and 3/4ths a rank in secondaries (you need the tomes until you get the rest of the way to rank 1, after that do whatever with them.)
Metamancy is not a good starter choice at all, its the hardest to use unless you have advanced materials and equipment, or enough crap to polymorph into advanced stuff (unless you want him to die really really really fast, or end up warping inside an boulder and dieing)
Technologic is not a very good starter either. Not nearly needy as Metamancy, but still not very newbie-friendly, unless WIZARD is ridiculously lucky.
Psionics requirees Focus. WIZARD can't even remember his name, so while It won't be any harder to start with this compared to the rest, you'll need to get rid of the ridicuolously huge mental cobwebs he's got first to be any good at it.
Mechamancy is the magic equivalent of KILLBOTICS, except not very advanced until WIZARD has some Technologics knowledge.
I'll let you Alchemize anything with anything (almost), but don't expect it to always work well, if at all. High level Alchemy has a Undo recipe, Which you'll probably need by then.
