Wow, people sure seem to like Guild Wars around here. I think I'll get that. In fact I might get all three, as they all seem pretty good. Two more questions though: are you sure I should get the first stalker? And is it somewhat like Oblivion or Fallout?

I wouldn't get all three at once. There are benefits, but you don't really lose anything from trying out just one first. Just get factions or nightfall (I didn't like the first one, prophecies, as much).

I haven't played Stalker but I want to. I think there's a thread on it in which relevant mods were listed; you should search it or just google "stalker mods".

Just Cause I also have been meaning to buy/rent. Fun fact: I used to think the title was meant "Just Because" instead of "Justified Cause". Heh.

I have an extra, unopened copy of Guild Wars that includes the latest expansion if you want to buy it. B12 discount of course.

Stalker series - Just buy one and see how you like it. All the games are very similar so if you hate one it's not going to be much better in any other.

Just Cause 2 - Meh, I prefer Farcry 2 as well as many of the other open ended action games.

Sensei- Is there a story I would have to follow, or are the campaigns separate?

Lap- Does that include all campaigns? Also, how exactly would the buying process work? (like paypal or something?)

What are the names of the mods?

There's Complete (closest to vanilla STALKER), and there's Oblivion Lost (pretty far from vanilla, but fun), and there's LURK (where the enemies can snipe you from across the map with inaccurate pistols at the lowest difficulty level {and that's not a bug, apparently}).

Just Cause 2, I will note, does not run on XP, because it requires DirectX 10. When I got my video card, it came with a free coupon for Just Cause 2 on steam, but oh! You can't actually PLAY it!

I'll add another tick against Stalker. It's an awesome game, genuinely creepy and oppressive while being a rock solid FPS/RPG(kinda).

I've played it with all kinds of mods but my favourite by far is Oblivion Lost. It rebalances guns, makes them sound and look more realistic, adds a cash intense repair function (in vanilla your guns just wear out eventually), adds drivable vehicles, and does a whole load of other stuff to tweak the AI, story, bugs etc.

Also, I've played both "expansions" and in my opinion they aren't as good as the first one. They aren't open world and they loose a bit of the creepiness because of it; they avoid all the highjinks of the first one where you would often be able to bite off way more than you could chew.

In further news, if people care, Stalker 2 has been announced for sometime next year. Huzzah!

They were expansions? Huh, thought they were sequels. If they aren't as free world though, than definitely not worth getting.

Yes, buy the first Stalker, and no, it is not much like Fallout 3. Stalker is more of a FPS than Fallout is, with more intense combat in some respects, ie. more player reflex based gameplay. Also, Fallout has a huge sprawling feel to it, even though the landscape is repetative IMO..Stalker is more concentrated, but very immersive. However, the Call of Pripyat has a larger feel, yet not as large as Fallout, but again is more on the 'seat of your pants' than Fallout.

Stalker is largely a 'free world' type of game, but the game world is smaller, really part of a city and a complex and surrounding country side. That said, I stress the intensity, because the game nearly made me shit my self a few times.

They're free standing expansions, complete games in their own right. I believe they didn't call them sequels because they kept the same engine, which is kinda nice of them. I think you also get a "loyalty discount" or something if you own the first one on Steam or Gamersgate, or at least you did when they came out.

Only worth getting if you want more Stalker.

Nope, there's not much story to follow and it's kept separate between the campaigns, except for the tie-in quests which let a character made on one continent (campaign) go to another one at about the halfway point, if you've bought more than one campaign of course.

Well, it seems I will definitely get Stalker. If for some reason that doesn't pan out, I'll just get one of the other two. They all seem good. Thank you all.
