Personal Diary of Commander Canalan
1 Granite, 41
Apparently I am more qualified to lead this fort than Barconis, even though I am confined to a hospital bed. Super. My first act will be to stop all the useless thread-work. Also, I have disbanded the Confusing Hames, as we need labor now more than might.

Today I watched a dwarf die on the operating table. I ordered his corpse to be dumped into the magma channel, which gave me a great idea. By general order, the final destination of all refuse is the magma hole! On a side note, a dog was found dead in the farms.
Wat. This gave me the idea to chain up war dogs at the entrance, so that is going on now.

I have been notified that a Forgotten Beast by the name of Utes has arrived at our fortress site. Armok save us.

It was made out of salt and it swam through an underground lake.
A little pile of “Utes Salt” rests halfway up the stair to the cavern. Wow. To celebrate, I made myself a new dining room!

I have mandated the construction of a mausoleum-mansion to be constructed for me in commemoration of my glorious slaying of Utes!

Oh Armok. Migrants. Two made it in safely, but the third one was ambushed by cloaked goblins.
This kicked off a series of other ambush parties decloaking and attacking the migrant line, which quickly became a disorganized orgy of blood. I closed the gate.

The slaughter has finally come to an end. Out of twentyish migrants, two craftsdwarfs survived. The myriad of tame animals are being slowly hunted down.
This is the worst thing I have ever seen.

We seem to be running out of wood with which to make barrels. I have cut the production of said barrels and ordered the farms to leave the fields fallow for Spring and Autumn.
7 Felsite
Our liaison has escaped the goblins after finally catching the expedition leader in a dead end. To be honest, it was kind of funny to watch him stumble around after him.

A disturbing report has just come in. The pool that our emergency cistern draws from has possibly become contaminated with blood and pus.
I have ordered that the cistern be filled to maximize the amount of safe water available.

It was inevitable. An elf caravan headed by a diplomat was bum rushed at the gates. Only one elf and mule made it inside; unfortunately, he was in no mood to trade. Even worse, his buddy that now decorates the outside walls was carrying all the booze.

My relief carpenter (actually a jeweler, but she
was good at making barrels) has been possessed!
Her babblings were interpreted to mean she wanted a Jeweler’s shop, and as soon as it was constructed, she and her baby were inside with some blueish gem in hand.

I had the gate open for that elf to leave when six bow-toting kobolds popped out from holes in the ground! Before I could get the gate closed, they had shot both of the dogs on guard duty to death. One of the kobolds was actually
on the bridge when it was raised. Fortunately, he stepped off before it flung him inside the fort.

Remember that fortunate kobold? The one who almost was thrown into the fort?
HE GOT IN. Somehow, he dove into the pool that feeds the cistern, opened the conveniently unlocked door, and charged down the hall at a miner that was paying his respects to charred_gp’s remains. I locked all the doors into the vital areas of the fort, because the kobold had already cut the poor miner off from them.
The miner attempted to kill the overgrown rodent with his pick, but before he could even raise his weapon, the kobold cut him down. On the bright side, this kobold ambush has seemingly scared away the 15+ gobos hanging around outside. On the downside, this one kobold has cut me off from the cistern. Since I was thirsty, I ordered a relief passageway dug. So I have staved off my death for a little longer. Yay.
