(i think that thread lead directly to the birth of Double Downs Man).
I think that was the sad thread. Maybe somewhere around page 700?

For networks that are supposed to embody learning and science, they've devolved to "Could a shark beat an alligator in a fight?" type programming.

Yeah. The next time you watch that show (or any of those combat-related/deadliest creatures shows), look for the main descriptive sentence about the animal's potential. Then count how many times that phrase gets repeated in the usually ~20 minute show. There's so much padding, ostensibly so "people just tuning in can get into it", that it bores me to fucking tears.

They string you along for two commercial breaks to talk about "the alligator's most ferocious attack yet", and then talk about the death roll. The thing Steve Irwin talked about every goddamn show the whole time he was on the learning channels.

At least Nat Geo doesn't treat you, as often, like you have the attention-span and short-term memory of a 4-year-old.

Theres quite alot of lack of logic there, calling all peace activists fake are like calling the hippie generation fake, unemployment has nothing to do with leading to war, in fact, it would be HUGELY unpopular for the US to go to war again when we are just pulling out (unless North Korea forces our hand), oh yea, many of his solutions involve sterilizing everybody....

Also, how the heck would a game show be very effective? Seriously, teaching that stuff in school would be more effective.

Edit: In the briefing they just did on CNN, even the police chief thought the demands the guy did were incoherent. So, yea this is going to be forgotten about by next week...

Reading the full list of demands.  I'm through two and I can feel my brain abandoning ship.  The guy actually typed "WTF???" in his list of demands.  It's the worst kind of Internet Manifesto, but written by a grown man who actually tried to violently act of this stuff.

I don't sense any kind of trend here, but I always wondered if something like this would happen.

I'm sure his manifesto makes sense to him. Or made, anyway. "Kill all the humans" isn't really a new political position, just one that has never really caught on. And most proponents still have a firm enough grasp of the realities of the adult world not to pull stupid, doomed stunts like this. Glad to hear the hostages weren't hurt.

I'm not sure how many of you have read Ishmael, but his whole manifesto is pretty much lifted straight from the book, with added crazy and racism.

The Great Lee says,
"Do you want to hear something disturbing?"

Cameraman responds,
"What?"

The Great Lee says,
"For every human born, ACRES of wildlife forests must be turned into farmland in order to feed that new addition over the course of 60 to 100 YEARS of that new human's lifespan! THIS IS AT THE EXPENSE OF THE FOREST CREATURES!!!!"

Cameraman responds,
"Jesus loves you."

Sorry Toady.

Well now that the dude's dead, I can get back to watching Mythbusters. I like DC. I admit many of ther recent shows are crap but a cool thing is that the Orange County Choppers guys are literally 5 min. down the read from my house.

I have to admit, I wasn't paying attention to this guy. The moment I found out he had demands along with kidnapping I knew it was going to go down badly for him.

Still, boo for blocking Discovery. They still have two pretty good shows. And Orange County Choppers.

Well, he seems to hate humanity and love animals... I think he actually passed the left wing and made an alignment all his own.

Gotta say, after reading his demands I might have to mourn this guy. He had the makings of an LCS leader.
