Magicka 2: Learn to spell.....AGAIN. Research before you buy.
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:05:26 pm »

A trailer that actually made me laugh.

Some reviews

Releases Q1 2011.

In a nutshell: 4 player co-op Diablo Hack n' Slash game. Mix and match elements to form spell combinations. Developer claims over a million types. Water + Fire = Blast of Steam. Earth + Fire = Flaming Wall of Earth. Can combine up to 4 Elements together, increasing the power of the spell or adding additional effects. Game makes a point of not taking itself too seriously.

There's no mana in the game, so spells replace most of the hack n' slash. The balance comes in because the more magic you combine as you craft your spells, the slower you move, so you're an easy target. And you can combine/combo spells off the other wizards to make things awesome.

And for those of you hardcore Alien Swarm players....FF is always on. So I predict hilarity as people try spell combinations and blast their homies back to the pre-magic age.

Magicka will offer 13 levels in the main cooperative campaign game, in which players can find secret items, challenges, new Magicks, and a constant shower of geek-reference minutia—or, as the Paradox folks so proudly and succinctly put it: “Experience the parody and satire of a clichéd fantasy world!”

Looks pretty fun, and I'm a sucker for faceless wizards. While there's a shit load of these games coming out now, if their spell system is all it's cracked up to be (which I do find a little hard to believe) it could be awesome.

This is the first game in a year that makes me cry on my PC because my PC sucks so much.

I want that game!

Hmm, that looks like it could be fun.

I really need more time to play games. :(

Hehe, even if the game turns out to be bad, that trailer was awesome.

I'm buying that.
Hopefully enough people will do the same to get some bay12 games up and running.

Looks cool, wonder what digital download service it'll be on. Will definitely be grabbing it, even though I've no clue if my computer could handle it

Judging by their list of published games, I'd say the major ones: Steam, Direct2Drive, maybe even Impulse. Looks like they aren't planning a boxed version, so I'm sure they'll try to get it up as many places as possible. There must be no deal with Steam yet though, because it's not on their coming soon list.

I hate this kind of marketing since it is basically lies. (or half-truths)

Fireball and Level 2 fireball are NOT two spells... -_-

I was disappointed when it said "In a generic fantasy world" because it was dumb, but all was redeemed with the subtle but hilarious "Only up to four wizards could save them"

Sort of, but it was a nice way to mock your common fantasy game.

That's what I'm hoping for Nenjin.

Personally love trailers of games that don't take themselves(or perhaps the genre) overly serious like the trailer for Magicka. Humor always makes a game better (short of a survival horror or something similar). Definitely feeling a Castle Crashers vibe here along with Diablo, so should be good times all around. Between this and Dungeon Defenders this fall I'm going to be busy :D
