I've been playing this game on and off since my teens too. It is very fun, despite the creator being a bit off his rocker. There's really something for everyone; the PvM experience is great (zones are immersive and well written), and the top tier PvP (CPK) is very intense and competitive. Some random advice that might make new player's lives easier:

1. Highly recommend starting as Cleric first because Sanctuary spell halves damage and hugely increases your survivability (among other extremely useful spells like Detect Invisibility, Recall and Heal). When you progress to next class you reactivate your previous class's abilities as you level. Warrior is hardest class to begin with because of no sneak, sanctuary or invisibility. Cleric>Thief>Warrior>Mage is easiest route to hero. Mages are all around most powerful/versatile, but for one on one PvP the thief is king for his backstab. If you start thief or warrior, watch the auction channel (type setauction some, and setwatch A) for blue or green orbs, which you can use to cast Sanctuary on yourself and everyone in room.

2. You can find lots of good equipment in the donation room, S E E of recall.

3. Train your class's primary stat while you are that class. Wis for cleric, str for warrior etc. It's important to max stats by the time you hero.

4. Try get into a nurturing type of clan early, so people will help you with expenses of multiclassing, and doing autoquests and stuff.

5. Be wary of CPK; you lose a level and people can loot you if you die. Because recalling is so easy, CPK is all about hiding out and ambushing helpless prey. Basically you won't know it's coming, and be Dead/immobilized before you can do anything. The trade off is that all the best equipment is gotten in CPK and you gain more experience there. If you have someone who can teach you the ropes it's fun and profitable.

6. Most people use Mudmaster for the in built chat feature (private, instant communication). I think I got it to work on Mushclient too, and I know tintin++ definitely has it.

7. Lastly, make good use of the Xezadha Cathedral zone. it's only available until you're level 20. Great XP and atmosphere to it, it's my favorite. :)

If anyone wants to take a peak at the game play, here are some "log files", basically closest you can get to a video of a text game:

Guys, sorry if this is no the right place to ask but I am rather lost. Please note that I don't have IT background.

I can't connect to the server because I am behind a wireless access point that is linked to a router. I don't own the router (I get free Internet from the owner) so I think changing its setting would not be appropriate (although I can try asking for permission). Is there anyway to connect to the server without port-forwarding the router?

I checked portforward.com but it does not list my wireless access point. And would the instruction on that website still valid if I am behind a wireless access point instead of directly behind a router?

Any help is appreciated!

I'm Arthakas in-game, level 10 mage. GMT0 timezone, usually on anytime from 11AM to 4 or 5 PM weekends, times vary in the week.
E: Holy crap, read the announcement. Clan prices are going up October 1st, 1 bil to make a clan and a load more to maintain  :o

Yeah, screw that. It'll either be easier to find a clan that will take everyone on, or just band together unofficially and do trade runs and shit when people are on.

OR
We powerlevel till the 15th, power-cash-make till the 29th and then make the clan before the price rise.

It takes me about 20 minutes to run Riverton -> New Genesia, which usually nets me a bit more than 1.2mil gold. Though it mostly depends on what MF's I run into. That's alone, with appaloosa mounts and 150,000 starter gold with no deaths.

If we manage to get 9 of us to level 20-ish in one group we could probably do a slightly tougher route and possibly bring in 3 million each, and even more depending on how the runs go. I haven't tried using wagon trains yet, but the extra goods that it can carry can bring that 3 million to 5 million each.

3h20m with that would gain us about 270m then I think.

Not entirely, if we ran the same route over and over the profits would drop due to demand deterioration.
It brings up another possibility though: Naeramae runs.

The problem is that Naeramae is CPK, meaning it's crawling with tons of campers. Not to mention the high risk would mean we'd be annihilated by MFs, even if we were all level 31.

I've never had to port forward for any MUD under any circumstances. I don't see why you would need to unless you were hosting it. The only thing I could see that could be blocking you if you are having problems is that whoever owns the router or perhaps the ISP has actively blocked the port(s) for some reason.

I believe medievia offers several ports to try when connecting, why not try the others to see if they're working before you do anything else.

I got this using Medievia's MudMaster:

Quote
# Connecting session [Character] to: medievia.com:4007
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a peri
od of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

# Zap! Connection closed...

Firewall is off. I don't get it. I can't connect to HellMOO and Achaea as well.  :'(

Oddly enough, I'm having trouble connecting to it too. But I'm fine on HellMOO. I've tried both Mudmaster and ZMud. Not sure. I tried a port forward in my own case and had no luck.

Well, I can't connect to any MUDs I've tried. My lack of IT-fu does not help, either. I've tried MudMaster, MushClient, browser-based client (Achaea). No goddamn luck so far.

Do you have any firewalls up?

He's already said no, if you'd have read.

Oops, sorry.

As someone else suggested you'll probably just have to shoot your ISP an e-mail and see if they are blocking certain ports, and if so, see if they can open them for you. Weird that they'd block you from accessing MUDs, though.
