Milking dwarves dump out any water in a bucket when they grab it to use for milking. Do they also dump the lye out in lye/water holding buckets?

I kinda wish lye was just deposited in barrels like booze.

That would make life a lot easier.

So if I understand this correctly, if I buy barrels of blood, then forbid the liquid inside and have the barrels hauled away to a stockpile, my dwarves will empty the contents onto the trade depot?

Actually, they'll empty them out at the source (i.e. your food stockpiles), not the destination.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I believe he was talking about buying barrels of blood off the traders, and having his dwarfs haul away barrels to a stockpile. So in that case, the depot would be the source, and the stocks would be the destination, correct?

OK, I just found this thread, and I think it answered two questions for me. Apparently, there's no way to get dwarves to move lye from a bucket to a barrel (just lye - I don't have mixed buckets) then?

And I guess there's no use for that blood I bought from the caravan, right? Well, it was cheap enough that it's worth it for the barrel. I'll forbid the blood and see if I can't get it dumped.

Here's an idea for tallow.
1: Put it on a drawbridge in high concentration.
2:During a siege, run a 1/7 magma over highest concentration to light up.
3: Due to a wierd thing with bridges, item launching is more random then aimed. Pull the lever.
4: ??? !!Tallow!! rain some stay dry- !!Tallow!! Danmaku !!!!

According to other threads and the wiki, setting up a stockpile that accepts lye and uses barrels ought to work.

if you have enough buckets, and make enough lye, and have enough barrels, your dwarves WILL eventually move it to a barrel.  It helps if your haulers aren't busy with other jobs.

While adding magma to anything will make it dwarfy, adding the word "magma" to your post does not necessarily make it funny.

It's just not a thing you can tell them to do, similar to cleaning.
