It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Aww, damnit.
That comic Shamus did a while ago about "Ubisoft" being the new "Daikatana" really got me.
I couldn't read that article without snickering.

Edit- Holy crap, I'm not contributing anything.

Yep. That's what we want all right. To drop $50+ on a high production quality game we'll forget within 2 months.

Ah well. The sooner they drive the current model into the ground by cranking out too many similar games, the sooner they'll start thinking about alternatives again.

The article that goes with the comic is pretty poignant I guess, but the comic itself isn't funny at all.

I suppose, but it was pretty funny in context to me.

I'm not sure, are you guys trying to imply that acknowledging that all the market wants is AAA games (Which is totally true) is evil or something?

Why not? Ubisoft is a corporation too and a press release such as this is pretty much self serving to their interests. If any thing it says invest in us, we are a AAA studio and will do any thing to make profitsss including cutting out software that we can't maximize profitsss with. In some ways kind of respect Kotick (the Activision bro) for being so upfront and honest with me about his company, he doesn't value fun or creativity and my wallet is happy to know that.

It's self serving. His words say it all. High production quality. That justifies the price in their mind. Voice actors. Professionally rendered cut scenes. Thousands of hours of labor by graphic artists.

Yet game play is always the same. Slap your IP into whatever 3d rendering engine you've licensed, develop a few shallow mechanics and voila, the new thing that everyone is supposed to flip out about.

I'd argue the AAA game market craves games with acceptable production quality that are really unique, fully developed and have depth and replayability. All four of those things are stuff the industry doesn't value though, or under values compared to the instant visual selling point.

AAA does not have to be synonymous with Hollywood-level production quality. Yet treating it that way allows them to justify their price and to always push for a higher price because they're delivering you "premium" content. What they consider content and what actual gamers consider content are two different things though.

Considering what they have been doing on the past couple years... Ubisoft lost all chances of receiving money from me. They'd have to make something truly great to get me past the DRM jackassery.

I kind of expect that stuff from about everyone nowadays... The economy isn't very forgiving right now.

I'm not sure, are you guys trying to imply that acknowledging that all the market wants is AAA games (Which is totally true) is evil or something?
At least I'm not. The market is made of retarded sugar-induced people that go weeee-new-shiny-game-must-play-nowz to every crap that is released. It's not evil entirely; exploiting that is the goal of pretty much every business that sells directly to the consumer. It's not as evil as it is heartless.
