I think a scumteam is feeding him answers.  I don't think Ottofar would come up with the "when I flip tower" line alone.

I am deeply hurt by your words. When I see someone complain about tells, I remember it.

Emotional appeals, and not very strong ones, either.  BRRRRZZZZT.

Meh.  Since Leafsnail hasn't shown up to answer my questions so that I can decide to assist him... No assist.  Hopefully this will give us some info.

Vector:  Fair enough.  Why do you suspect those three?

Leafsnail's gone from lurking to not even trying.  Otto is a little scummy, but I think he's scummy in every game.  Best course of action here is to declare no assist- I want them both gone.

To latch onto the "when I flip..." comment as scummy requires a great deal of technical knowledge.  It's not a standard scumtell.  Some players are more about "big gestures" and emotional reads, whereas others are tilted more towards "micro-tells."  It's kind of like the difference between scalpels and hammers.

You, IronyOwl, and Leafsnail all have fairly condensed playstyles, question-oriented, very careful.  You guys also have the necessary experience and (as far as I know) technical knowledge to pick up on Leafsnail's statement.  As such, I'm guessing that you three would be the best candidates for the position.

Assist Leafsnail's Healing with Water. You're making this difficult, Leafsnail.

I disagree. Scum trying too hard to look town is an obvious and well-known scumtell- it's the nuances of when and how it's an actual, useful scumtell that requires more technical expertise.

What he said was "'when I flip town...' is scummy for some reason I can't remember." That's about what I'd expect from a noob of either alignment. If he'd been fed that from his scumteam, I'd imagine they'd tell him why it was scummy.

Hmm.  You may have a good point, there, but I still doubt that the scumteam would tell him why it was scummy (or, rather, that that data would be conveyed via Ottofar to the thread).  My experience with Ottofar is that he tends to read part of the scumchat and skim the rest, so any detailed instructions are lost.

Given the wooden "you have hurt my feelings deeply," I'm further inclined to believe that he didn't come up with things himself.

IronyOwl inscribes Orange runes of Water in the air above Leafsnail to give him additional Healing

No other assists were performed

Set-up phase is now closed

Duel and Side-actions results will be up once I have them finished. May be tonight, might not be until some time tomorrow morning.

Dammit.  Missed assist phase.  Was gonna assist Leaf, though.  Otto's defense is BS.  His is meh, but better.

Anyway, Leafsnail and Ottofar; why do you think Jim Groovester was targetted by the Cabal, instead of anyone else?
He was going to vote for me, as he stated multiple times, and I was already being suspected.

What are you saying here? It feels like you're throwing out WIFOM. Are those the only reasons you can think of?

Yeah, it's kinda WIFOM-esque, but yeah, pretty much. And that Jim has experience.

According to those reasons, then, you stand to benefit greatly from his death. Doesn't that make you scum, by your own logic?
Or easy target to lynch for scum.

I'd guess Jokerman is scum. Not too sure about Leafsnail.
...huh?

I was asking you a question as to what you thought. That's scummy, now? Deflecting.
No, but that example thing I made over there somewhere makes me think this way. That line was there to answer that one question.

The Marshal of the Games opens this round with fanfare. Brilliant bursts of light explode throughout the arena as the two combatants make their way to their starting circles.

Leafsnail walks in from the North. A bright blue cape flutters behind him, and he holds a glowing golden sword in one hand. As he reaches the center of his circle her sweeps the sword up before him. Bright blue runes cascade around him, and the arena shudders as a chunk of the floor rises up below him. He brings his sword into a guard position and looks down the arena at his opponent.

Ottofar stands in traditional wizardly robes, his impressive beard nearly touching the floor before him. Maroon runes flare on his robes and the air around him sparkles as great spears of ice appear above his head. With a nod of his head at the Marshal he takes a fighting stance, wand pointed at the blue mage.

With a blaring of trumpets the Marshal signals the start of the duel!

Ottofar moves first, the glowing spears slashing towards Leafsnail with a hiss. The Blue mage steps backwards and slides down the back of the pillar of rock. Shards of ice rain down on the arena floor as the spears crash into pillar.

With a flick of his sword he sends a boulder hurtling across the arena floor. Ottofar barely manages to duck out of the way as it bounces over him and into the arena wall behind.

The maroon wizard stabs upwards with his wand, and great chunks of ice pummel the arena around Leafsnail. The blue wizard quickly jerks a shield of Earth over his head. As the hail of ice slows he swings his sword and sends shards of the shield flying about the arena. Ottofar simply holds out a hand, however, and a wave of water catches the rock and washes the pieces off to the side.

With his other hand he flicks his wand, and a wave of swirling water rises up around Leafsnail. The blue mage backpedals and starts raising a stair of stone above the water. Ottofar smiles and the water turns to ice. His smile turns to a scowl, however, as leafsnail simply breaks free of the thin layer that had formed around his boots. A flash of the golden blade and the arena floor cracks, a fissure growing beneath the Maroon wizard’s feet. Startled, Ottofar quickly leaps to one side.

He stabs with the wand, and the ice around his opponent shatters. Razor sharp shards fly in all directions. Leafsnail’s protective wards flicker around him, but he suffers a few small cuts despite his protections. He jumps off of the steps and stabs his sword deep into the ground. A great spike of rock erupts from beneath Ottofar’s feet and he is sent sailing through the air to crash heavily on cracked stone.

Rolling to his feet faster than anyone could have expected the maroon wizard gives a pained wave of his hand. Ice turns to water and rushes at Leafsnail, only to swirl around nothing as he vanishes into the rock beneath him.

You gasp in wonder as he appears behind Ottofar. The golden blade flashes, and the maroon wizards collapses on the ground.

The Marshal signals the end of the Duel, and Leafsnail raises his sword high as he strides from the Arena. Ottofar, however, is levitated gently away by the Healers.

Hearing some commotion behind you you turn to see Vector gasping for breath and turning quite red. The Healers are summoned and she is quickly taken away. You hear one of the servers mention something about a peanut allergy.

No matter. One less person for you to face in the Arena, and that puts those of you who remain one step closer to the seat of High Mage.

Looking up at the Floating Announcement Board you see the following:
Ottofar, Time Mage of Air has lost a duel and is removed from the Tournament!
Vector, Archmage of Air has suffered an allergy attack and is removed from the Tournament!

Voting for the Third Duel is now in progress. It will go until ~5pm Pacific Thursday

Lonewolf, you should remember why I am voting you.

Leafsnail:  Has your time in the ring encouraged you to participate?  Who do you suspect and why?  Like I said earlier- I want you gone if you're not going to play.

Meph: Speaking of people not playing, can we get a prod on Solifuge?  His last post was seven days ago, before the assist phase.

I'll prod Solifuge. Jetsquirrel was replaced by IronyOwl, so he doesn't need prodding.

Toaster, care to explain why you pointed out Solifuge while ignoring the fact the Criptfeind's been gone almost as long (6 days) and completely missed the assist phase as well?

Criptfeind, care to explain the absence?  You were on the forums.  You posted 87 times since the last time you posted in Wizard Duel.  (For reference, all I do is go to the person's profile, click 'Show Posts', and search back until I find the most recent post in this game).

Mephansteras, prod on Criptfeind as well please.
