You plot a course to one of the possible hideout locations keeping your speed down so you look like a small mining fleet. As you near the cluster of asteroids your sensors pick up a large amount of ships clustered around one of them. You slowly move towards one of the asteroids to maintain your disguise while the Monitor fires her lasers intermittently at it, trying to mimic mining operations. Fortunately, the pirates don't seem to notice you or don't care about you, letting you scope out their defenses at you leisure.


You identify about 4 civilian ships, 2 small defense stations, and a salvaged destroyer or two amongst the rag-tag fleet. As you're about to leave with this info, your scanners pick up another object docked at the station, but are unable to Identify it.


One of the pirates seems to have gotten a little curious about your squadron and has adjusted its course.

Identifying the unknown vessel would be wise, but it would be better to avoid drawing suspicion. I say we should begin to slowly move away, but make sure our shields are at full power. If the pirate is an armed civilian ship and fires without waiting for reinforcements, kill it with a barrage of lasers. Hopefully the unknown contact will emerge, and we'll be able to scan it before beating a hasty retreat.

If it's a salvaged alliance ship, or if multiple pirates come at us, get out of there at the maximum speed of our slowest ship.

Mmmmh, our instructions are not to fight unless fired upon.

I vote we stay around, trying to find out what the unknown vessel is. As for the incoming ship, just wait for it to shoot (She either got only lasers or one torpedo, nothing we can't cope with) and shoot it down. Then run away, leaving some kind of probe/shuttle hidden in an asteroid to see what's the hidden ship is.

Do we have any probes available? If so, dropping one is a no-brainer, possibly on delayed activation. How does our top speed compare to the known enemy vessels? One way or another we're going to have to run, but it'd be good to know which ones can catch us.

I can safely say that we're faster that the armed civilians and defense station, but I don't think we can outrun the destroyer (Altough, since they're scavenged ones, they may be less effective). However, we definitely out-gun them so it shouldn't be a problem (especially if the ship coming now is one, so we can take them out one by one). However, we don't know a think about the last ship. Looking at the map, it appears to be slightly bigger than the destroyer, so I guess he got roughly the same power/speed as our own SAS Merrimac.


As for the probe, if we don't have anything that can do that (Which would be strange, even if it's not standards equipment, jury-rigging one from a shuttle and a radio transmitter qhould be easy) try to send a crew in a shuttle. If they hide in an asteroid, the should be able to avoid detection and wait for the pirate to return to their base.

get in closer to check out the unidentified object. at the first sign of anyone taking notice of us, get out of there using our ships full speed and manuvering to dodge enemy fire.

We already are drawing attention, since a ship is coming. I don't think advancing would be wise, since we can out-gun one ship, but if all of them fall on us at once, we're doomed.

As for the shuttle, if (and only if) there is no way to make it work automatically (That is, make it identify the unknown vessel and then send the informations by radio) we can retrieve it during the assault, or it can escape when all the ships are pursuing us. It is a very dangerous mission, but by no mean a suicide one.

If there are no probes of any kind here's how to make one:

1) Take a missile or torpedo, remove the warhead.
2) Take a transmitter and a small active scanner from the spare parts storage (A spaceship without spare parts is just asking for trouble)
3) Connect the transmitter to the scanner so it will send back to us whatever the scanner picks up
4) Cram it all into the torpedo, removing other components as needed but keeping it controllable
5) Launch the new probe

I suggest we wait till we have to take of this threat, then while we begin our acceleration out of the area launch the new probe back towards the enemies if we haven't gotten the scans we need by this point. That way we're already leaving when we get the info and they likely won't be able to catch up to us. At least not until we're back on our own turf.
