The Fortress of Laboredspeaker. (Succession)
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:09:22 am »

Welcome to Laboredspeaker. To be honest, this is the first time to host a succession game, but there aren't many things I can screw up, are there?
For the sake of moderate sanity, I decided to make this a balanced embark - two miners, one wood cutter, one mason, one carpenter, one fisherdwarf/cook and fish cleaner/brewer. Here's the location:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Goblins, humans and elves, all combined in a moist broadleaf forest. Wood and nothing special, of course. But there's a catch - we're playing this in an old version, Dwarf Fortress .23.130.23a to be exact. A download is available right here, for anyone interested. Yes, we're playing Vanilla.

Entry list:
1. LordSlowpoke [Finished]
2. ottottott [Skipped]
3. AntifaSkin [Skipped]
4. Biag [Skipped]
5. kilakan [Playing]
6. Salmeuk

Each turn is one year, and to play each turn you have up to a week. When you're done, pack up the save and send it to DFFD. The right to skip your save and play on is reserved only if the game is considered unplayable (bugged, or there's a demon sitting in the dining room waltzing in to kill everyone, in that case it's skipped unless the player says otherwise).

Feel free to sign up, regardless of having played the version before, or being an expert - that's what makes succession games fun.

Haha well I guess I can also squeeze my ubernoobness in here (not really but still...lol) Never played on 23a so is there anything important I need to know about that old version? Anyways you can count me in :3. But personally I think your starting location seems too quiet. But I guess I shouldnt complain about that since I'm still pretty bad at this game XD

Well... If you are used to all the helping stuff like I was then... Make sure you can handle the keys being different, no possible tilesets, no other helping programs either... creeped me out when I first tried it.

This shall be (hopefully) the non-asylum like Boatmurdered....
Eh I shouldn't have said that now its doomed to be as disastrous as Boatmurdered :3

Dam! You shouldn't have said the last one. Then it would have been.

This fort is probably going to go splendidly without any hilarious mishaps at all. Overall, it will be pretty well-managed, clean, and organized, and there will be no accidents resulting in the fiery deaths of scores of dwarves.

There, we're good now.

Well, I've decided. Reverted everything, deleted the story, et cetera, mainly because I died terribly - let's do this again, focusing on getting you guys a semi-safe way of surviving another year. I think the save will be here today, with explainations and a map. In retrospect, it's what I should do on the first year. Bah.

Also, did I just get ninja'd in a thread I thought nobody will post in? Hell yeah I did. You get a cookie.

I would sign up. (that means I want to) make sure not to dig out 7X7 or bigger rooms.(that was bad back then) Also I would be dwarfed as a Doctor, or Metal Worker.

Edit: Also I've only played 2d once, and even then I just looked at the map and the no Z-levels. I hadn't even struck the earth yet when I stopped playing.

Or maybe there's a god who's just completely insane and sends you to Detroit, Michigan in a new body if you ever utter the name "Pat Sajak".

I only even started playing a few months ago, and unless someone is putting something in my food, then I'm not.
