Okay, I took it and started expanding the fort. We now have food safety, beds, dining room, etc etc. I'm waiting for the next migrant wave to set up a real metalworking industry and an army.

Reports, reports, reports!

How are our wastelanders doing?  Any drama?  Has the evil overlord gotten his comeuppance for stranding us in this accursed place?

Here we go, the fortress now got rooms for everyone, food, booze, and a military.

I suggest the next player focus on finishing arming the military and building an hospital.

Also, watch out for Large Rat, I have no idea where they come from, but they did killed some dorfs.

Save.

18th Malachite: Preliminary Overseer's Report

Imsalaban, or Vault 31 as I will now be referring to it, is shockingly functional.  Vault 31 has moved beyond phase one of the experiment, although sadly, our primary agent in the test group, Lord Shonus, has met his death at the hands of the native fauna in the caverns, a large rat if the reports of the interim overseer Sheb are to be believed.  It appears that Sheb's work as head of Vault 31 has been so successful as to trigger my Vaut-Tec implants.  I am no longer Moses Zuglarzas.  I am MrBobbyg, Vault-Tec secondary adjunct of Vault 31.  With Lord Shonus non operational, it will be my task to continue the experiment.

I am pleased to find that I am involved with a lovely young “subject,” Kosoth.  Deep cover has its advantages, as for all my skills as a scientist and my icy blooded devotion to Vault-Tec, I am not exactly a hit with the ladies.  I will have our quarters expanded subtly.  I must not reveal myself to the subjects.  The experiment will be a success.  May Gosmer Faintsable hide my hand and keep my path in darkness.

(Rad coincidence here, my dweller worships the god of twilight and dusk.  Perfect for an undercover corporate agent.  Not sure how to insert images, but if someone tells me, I will.  Also, anyone who wants a dweller is welcome, we have plenty.)

20th Malachite: Incident Report

Workers in the primary caverns have discovered a large pit.  Preliminary examination of the pit has revealed it to be at least several thousand meters deep; it defies our attempts to measure it.  In order to limit interest, I have suggested that Sheb, our “leader,” issue an advisory to avoid the pit, but have not forbidden it.

Praise Gosmer!  The pit will save us hundreds of man hours of excavating.  I am encoding a transmission to Vault-Tec HQ stating that we will breach the secondary layer soon, but that we do not yet have the resources to proceed to phase two of the experiment.

Further good news!  My superiors at Vault-Tec were correct about this site; there is something very special going on down below.  Scouts have encountered massive, twisted and muscled creatures in caverns; they have named them “Bull Demons.”  This bodes well for the existence of the resource I have been sent to analyze.  The demons are far to strong for our security force to handle at this point, but in order to preserve the experiment I have not sealed them off.

On that note, I am beginning work on some more comprehensive defensive structures.  We must be open to the world, but we need not be in senseless danger.

28th Malachite: Supplemental

One of the Bull Demons breached out living areas, causing great chaos.  Security was dispatched; and the battle was over in a second.  My undertrained and underequipped forces made a bull demon their bitch.  I'm not sure if I should be afraid of my tactical team, or in doubt of the effectiveness of the resource as a weapon.

17th Galena: Traders Arrive

The 17th brought welcome news.  Traders have arrived.  It has been an eventful month.  I established a hospital near the workshops, and I was stunned to find that nearly half of the vault dwellers now inhabit it.  It seems that near constant rat attacks have given most of the fort minor injuries.   Our broker is one of the wounded, so I have taken it upon myself to trade.  I have no idea how much a jet bobblehead is worth, so this is going to be fun.

28th Limestone

I have not been myself today...ach...my Moses subroutine is coming through...I..need..CHALK!  I NEED WOOD!!!

(days later)

Wow, I am embarrassed about this...at least the incident seems to have unlocked some of Moses's fine engraving skills.

22nd Sandstone: Personnel Reassignment

It has come to my attention that nobody has been treated in the hospital, as the chief scientist is among the wounded.  I have appointed one of our woodsmen in his stead.  He claims to have some experience in surgery.

It would comfort me to no end if he were to drop his axe however.

23rd Timber: Additional Trade

The days move on, and more and more I find myself tending to the running of this Vault as opposed to the experiment that led me here.

Our new doctor has done shockingly well.  Many of the wounded are up and about, and he did not seem to exacerbate anyone's injuries.  I will keep him in the position.

Merchants have arrived.  I skillfully traded several carbon steel mugs for many, many years worth of food, cloth, and leather.  We will not want for clothes or sustenance.  I asked the traders to bring sand, glass, and timber.

I am feeling pressure to dig more deeply.  Vault security is mostly outfitted in power armor, and super sledges have replaced their bare hands.  I have dug a trench around the vault , and I am trapping the only entrance.  We will be safe when the raiders come, as I know they soon will.

Why am I doing this?  I justify that my actions are necessary to create a stable enough platform from which to engage in my mission, but I am no longer sure.

28th Moonstone: After Action Report

I ordered the miners to dig deeper into the caverns, and as they did they struck layer after layer of treasures.  This digging awoke several bull demons, which chased our miners until security arrived.  Outfitted in their new gear they made short work of the beasts.

I am clearing out a larger section of the caverns.  I think I will mass flood the area so we can more easily grow crops and trees.

As a side note, bull demons provide an almost perverse amount of meat.

If you want sand, some bug created one tile of red sand when I removed a wall between the barrack and the armory. I built a floor over it, but it should still be there when you deconstruct it.

New Rule, merely for asthetic reasons. If you can get it to work, use DFhack to clear the blood before you post your save.

Final Note

I can no longer fully perform my duties for Vault-Tec.  I have become too attached to the people of Vault 31, and I fear what may occur if I continue towards the *resource*.  For purposes of history, I will detail all that has happened since I last made a log entry.

Several traders have come and gone.  Our crafter, BlackRogue, has made some exquisite carbon steel goblets, and we have bought out the entirety of their caravans.  We have plenty of food, although drinks must be monitored, as I have been unable to keep up with barrel production.

We now have two squads of security.  The more experienced one guards the surface entrance, and the new squad is in the first cavern layer.  They are mostly armored in carbon steel, although the second squad is as of now weaponless.  We have farms on the first cavern layer, and additional farming two layers below.

Additionally, I have begun construction of a fusion reactor.  I had planned this to power a mist generator for our citizens.  Life is hard.  We have little to amuse ourselves from the grim toil of this icy hell.  Maybe a mist shower will make it a little better.

In furtherance of the project, I have dug down to the massive magma sea, and have struck the clownite within.  I have done nothing with this, as I fear that securing the resource will cause damage to the Vault I have come to love.  I can no longer live a double life.  I am preparing to attempt to short out my Vault-Tec implants.

May god have mercy on my soul.
