It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

I'm pretty sure that it is possible to save this. I just looked at it, and it should be possible. There is metal that barrels can be made out of, the fort just needs to be sealed off from the outside world for a while.

Sorry for my apsence. Had some RL issues that prevented me from continuing my turn (or posting at all for that matter). Anyway, yeah, when I sent a dwarf outside to chop wood, the whole fortress got killed by goblins. Or berzerk dwarves. Again, sorry for delaying the game.

Yeah, I have no time to do my turn this week.
Could I be moved to this weekend?  I will have time then.

Sure, I'll update the schedule.  Who wants to give this thing a shot?

It's me next, so i'll give it a try of saving it. As there's only one dwarf, the year will probably go pretty quick.

If no one minds overly much,

If the year passes uneventfully (no migrants, mainly), I say you go another year or so.

I agree with doing this

Only if it doesn't lead to elves

Just started. there was a problem with the existing still. For some reason, the dwarf would not use it. I've created a new one, and it's working fine. Update to follow.
Edit, No it's not. Not sure why it's not working.
Edit again. Finally the bugger is making beer.

It wasn't my fault ! The still was built from wrong stones.

No big deal. This is though. Our dwarf civ is dead. there are no elves or humans either.

No importnat leaders = Civ dead. Right ?

A pity because I was doing pretty well, I had made some barrels, sealed off the fort from the outside, made some booze, buried all the dead, transferred valuble items to the depot, made some rock mugs and was just cutting gems when it occurred to me that some traders should have turned up by now..

To be honest, the game was acting pretty buggy anyhow. The dwarf kept on hanging around or taking long breaks when he had jobs to do, and would take faraway rocks instead of close ones. Miasma and unhappy thoughts from dead bodies seemed to be turned off somehow.

I say start again in a new place. I have a nice volcano location that might be suitable. no coal of course, and you have to go far down to get infinite water. In fact it's an odd one. some of the caves are 20 z levels high. All civs are alive.

Eh, I'm okay with doing a restart.  It would be lovely to see this fort survive....

Now, I'm aware that some of us could hardly be considered newbies.  I myself have been playing for a few years, but this was my first succession game, which really IS a new experience.

So whichever way we go, I'm still dedicated to the idea of this being a semi-newbie fort.  With all of its blessings and curses...  Especially the curses.
