also in the OP don't the gnomes just steal your beer or something?
I think what you meant to say was "get stabbed in the face near a booze stockpile".

*punts the Tolkien discussion*

Here's how I see it, presented in easy-to-understand shipper's parlance. The descriptions are presented from the first civilization's point-of-view.

  • Dwarves x Elves: Elves are alarmist eco-terrorists.
  • Dwarves x Humans: Bros, though the Dwarves are technologically superior.
  • Dwarves x Kobolds: Kobolds are nuisances.
  • Dwarves x Goblins: KILL THEM ALL.

How the other races see Dwarves and each other isn't as important, this is, after all, Dwarf Fortress.

It's interesting to know so that you can know whatever beeing sieged by goblins elves and humans at the same time is a really big problem or is 3 problems that are going to solve themselfs.

For the record, sometimes goblins may actually trade with you. Once, when I put in a lot and I mean a lot of hostile civilizations in the 40d series, Goblins were actually willing to trade with my Dwarven Outpost.

Yeah, Goblins are actually decent metalworkers and stoneworkers, I imagine dwarves would ordinarily be amicable with them if not for the whole demon-led invasion thing.

Despite the fact that they also kidnap kids, they make for great adoptive parents! Often times I see human, dwarf or elf priests! Course, that was a whiles ago.

Actually, I suspect my play-style probably affects how the dorfs in my fortress view the elves and vice-versa. They might have their funny little ways but they're useful people to be on the right side of if you've got no magma.

Mind you, I added elven caravan guards and had one of them try and take on a dragon single-handed, and another one kill half a goblin ambush before he went down.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.
