I've never done anything OS-like, so I may be wrong. The Linux Kernel is written in C, or at least it looks like it. Unpacking the kernel shows tons of .c files.

CPUs only run machine language, assembly is simply the only language that every instruction directly represents a certain sequence of machine language, and vice versa.

Some compiled languages do not nessecarily need an OS or anything else, so are suitable. Also, some languages support compiling to assembly or inline assembly.

Are you going to send it to anyone or post a download here (to the VBox file or ISO or whatever) when you're done with that? If you do then maybe some bored people will write some code/drivers/whatever for you.

Maybe Baughn would want to take a look at this, what with his/her programming skills. Then again, he/she's probably busy coding DF graphical stuff among others.
