I want to build on a volcano to get magma early and more easily. Where can I find a volcano?

Design a new world with parameters, and set the minimum number of volcanoes to 200.

There are other settings which make it easier to find a good volcanic embark location, but I'm not so familiar with the techniclities myself, yet.

As far as I can tell, that setting is the only thing that has anything to do with surface volcanoes - all the other "volcanism" stuff relates to what will be going on beneath the surface (whether you will have magma pipes below ground e.g.).
edit: not disagreeing, you're right about the min # of volcanoes

Okay, changed it to 200 and genning now. I didn't change anything else. I hope this won't ruin the world.

What does a volcano look like on the Phoebus tileset?

You know what the trap marker looks like in play? it's the same tile as that.

By the way you won't "ruin" anything, although you should be aware that sedimentary layers will VERY rarely overlap a volcano area, so don't expect to find coal at your volcano site - it can happen but it's really very rare (probably around 1 in 1000).

I found one that's in the middle of the ocean which is good for me since I will be able to desalinate the water to give myself and infinite amount of it. However, is being on an island in the middle of the ocean going to prevent the enemy from sieging me?

Pretty much - goblins are a valuable source of challenge and resources, personally I don't like to play a fort that will never get goblins.

When picking a tile to embark, how do I pick one on mainland so that it gets attacked by goblins? Are some more goblin-prone than others?

Hit tab a few times, you will see all the civs that can access the site listed, if goblins are there, you will get attacked.

I you generate worlds with lots and lots of volcanos, I'd also recommend increasing the number of low-vulcanism squares, to retain some variety in stone layers.

This is another nice embark location with a volcano:

Lots of metal resources, very defensable location, no aquifer, the river is a little out of the way, but not impossibly so.
