Tropico (all of em!)

Well I personally believe this is one of the best games of all time. However I have only played the first one. Is the second one good? The third?

Only played Tropico 3. It was good. It gave it a good 20 hours or so. I played it on a easy setting though...it seems like the kind of game where a lot of the replayability is driven by "Fun" like people that hate you, governments that want to invade you and elections you can't win without starting a rebellion.

The second game is completely thematically unrelated to the other games.  It's a lot less serious too.

That said, it's a decent enough bargain-bin item.  If you can get it at very deep discount, it will be worth the time you spend installing and running it.

I have never played Tropico 1, but from what I hear, Tropico 2 was just the same game, but with pirates. Or so I have been told. None the less I found Tropico 2 an excellent game and it warranted my enjoyment to buy 3...

I never played Tropico 1 but I really enjoyed Tropico 2 and later Tropico 3. Tropico 2 is really underrated just because of being different from others in the series, don't pass on it.

Great games. I prefer 1 and 3 but I think that's just because I like the banana republic theme more. The second game is still pretty good.

I haven't, however, played the expansion to 3--is it worth the money?

1 I likes.
3 is pretty much like 1, but more stuff added.  I likes too.
2 is ok, it is very very different from 1, but lacking in the way that captain selection is limited.  (I was obligated to coddle em cause of their non-replaceableness...)

I loved I and really liked 3, but didn't find 2 enjoyable at all.

Tropico 3 is a great city builder, I like the concept of a goal driven sandbox game. You have a task - say, to survive for 40 years while tons of crap happens to you, or to get the general happiness up to x%, or to siphon y dollars into your retirement fun - and are allowed to go about it any way you want. Loved it.

The adviser in T1 is way better then the butt-kissing radio host in T2.  In my opinion.

I loved how he said: "So sad."

I like them all, some of my favorite games!

The first - Easily the best. Does not require qualification.
The second - A good game of piracy, economics are unique and interesting! the non serious parts i feel add to the game rather than detract from it, but thats probably due to the quality of the creation rather than the concept itself.
The third - A direct rehash of the first one, some good elements but I wouldnt advise it if you already have Tropico 1.

I played this recently, I enjoy imposing rules to make it fun.

My last one was 'Sierra Leone tropico'
I banned:
Houses, churches, healthcare, cash crops.
Had alot of gold miners (representing diamonds)

It was fun, but i lost. My military wasnt strong enough to fend off the populous from destroying my palace :(
Next time ill create a military down, with all amenities denied from the serfs.

I also tried 'Caymans' tropico making mass tourist banks, It ended up being more trouble than its worth :D

There is one single addition that makes Tropico 3 worthwhile.

Garages.
