Yeah, I personally think that they mostly do it for the money. I read somewhere that they have a lot of lawyers and sue quite a bit, usually for libel as mentioned before.

How much money could WBC actually get from the kind of people who they'd actually be able to sue?  I can't really picture anyone but individual citizens speaking out against them publicly.  Then again that didn't stop the music industry from trying to sue everyone that used Napster.

Hey, isn't an important part of being a troll the idea that you're only doing it for some twisted version of fun?

I'm pretty sure WBC actually believes most of what they spout whole heartedly.  They spout their crap because it's their duty to God.  They're the result of the worst parts of Christianity (and religion in general) put together, except that they're thankfully so utterly psychotic that they didn't even come to the usual conclusion of 'kill everyone who disagrees with us'.

The thing is, reading their websites, you can tell it's meant to be offensive.  There's no internal narrative or consistency - they bash every form of Christian in the most emotive ways possible, as well as every other religion, and as many popular media figures as possible as well.  They criticise all western nations for being "fag enablers" and in countries where they are extremely brutal to gay people... they try to find something else.  Calling popular celebrities whores?  Check.  Randomly making generalisations about entire countries?  Check.  Calling the Prophet Mohammed a pedofile?  Check.

In other words... trolling for cash.

They also are infamous for protesting military funerals.  This is far too involved for a troll, and if they're getting money out of it it's more like whatever Scientology is than anything.

WBC are professional trolls. Still trolls, they use the same methods, but unlike others(CrimsonKing) they actually profit from it.

In terms of the trolling bits; if you know when to shut up, pull out, and not make an end retort when a discussion goes sour, you'll do just fine.

I've gotten into a couple of messy debates, and now I just follow this instead of telling people what they should think.

I like how there are world-wide perspectives on this forum, which is much more uplifting than the folks around my parts at times.
