16th Galena:
A human diplomat appeared two days ago though our western entrance, claiming to belong to a caravan of traders and asking to speak with our leader. There was no trace of that caravan till today, when it started to descend the rock passage toward the depot.
Work is proceeding well in the fortress. The military complex has been almost finished:
The only thing remaining is to elaborate all the needed mechanisms for the buried stakes to hide and pop out at will. This will take a long time, even more so because there seems to be not a lot of mechanic talent around here. Oh well, if you want a job done right...
22th Galena:
Ambush! The human caravan must have attracted some raiders, because a group of goblins has been spotted near the eastern walls, armed with spears. We've locked down the fortress and left the western entrance open to lure the invaders into our traps. Some infiltrators have also been seen in other places, but have fleed right after being spotted.
24th Galena:
Edem the Stoneworker has found his final fate at the hands of a very skilled infiltrator who we didn't find before, while the dwarf was making a beeline to the inside of the fortress. The dwarf Bomrek Atasterush also died outside the fortress, when he decided to run in the wrong direction, right into the herd of goblins. They will be avenged.
28th Galena:
After a hunter started attacking the goblins, killing one and maiming another critically, the captain of the militia decided to change the strategy, and summoned both squads to rush the invaders. The Fort Destroyer went first into the fight, killing two of the goblins right away before his companions could join and finish the job with ease.
24th Limestone:
Work has gone at good pace during this month of peaceful recovery. But today we got another case of sudden obsession: Nil Kedolon has "claimed" a crafts workshop and won't let anyone in it. He's also taking several items all around the fortress.
I've also started a housing complex project right on top of our adamantine mining operation. I'm tired of sleeping on the ground all the time, and most of the others are too.
28th Limestone:
After taking a ton of elephant bones, copper nuggets and a piece of precious raw adamantine, he stopped wandering and started working on something.
2nd Sandstone:
He finally finished the job, whispering "Cuditnabreth" before falling to the ground like a rock. I really can't understand this kind of happenings. This thing appears to be a raw adamantine crown, which gives me a bad feeling. We shall keep quiet word of it, we wouldn't want more nobles here wishing to wear this damned (but precious) craft. Just looking at it gives me temptations of...
...better not to think about this.
8th Sandstone:
Just to prove that he was still alive, that fool- I mean, the baron fivex came to me today and demanded 3 sterling silver crafts to be built. Whichever ones, just that they have to be made of that damned alloy. I was about to tell him to go back to his rooms and never come back, but after all, he is legally the baron now. Orders were sent so that those wicked crafts are made.
25th Sandstone:
One of the hunters, Nil Dorenestil, has died today in a freak hunting accident. He will be remembered.
Incidentally, his death comes just in time for him to use the new catacombs I had ordered built next to the old ones.
21st Timber:
Right after sighting a dwarf caravan from the mountainhomes, we also spotted another one of those damn goblin war parties. Several macemans were spotted. The routine measures were taken, and we await the arrival of the invaders while examining the traps a last time.
24th Timber:
One of our axemans, Likot Nelasiden, decided that he'd be able to take on the invaders by itself, and proceeded to charge the group down the cliff. Another coffin will have to be built now. Two more soldiers rushed to try to help the by then already helpless dwarf, and got themselves killed too. The idiots. Kadol Lolokrigoth managed to kill one of the invaders and injure another before blacking out, though.
3rd Moonstone:
After exterminating half of the wandering cat population of the fortress, the goblins finally got inside the fortress and right into the cage traps. The two green invaders who managed to evade them got grinded by the caravan guards, who rushed into the action.
Another ambush is dealt with.
4th Moonstone:
Or so I thought. Another squad was spotted right beside our entrance, 5 more macemans and what looks to be... a dwarf archer.
5th Moonstone:
They probably got demoralized by the fate of their other squad, because they fleed as soon as we saw them. Back to normal for us, now hopefully for real.
3rd Obsidian:
The Pyramid is now finished, at last and despite the interruptions.
While it looks quite stable (which proves my indisputable engineering ability), I can't help but feel that it being hung out in the middle of the air with almost no support is a bit unnatural. So I've decided to add a pillar to the base of it, all the way to the ground. Also, I've used one of the bottom levels to place my future resting place, that if the gods will, will be unused for several years.
27th Obsidian: To celebrate the end of the year, another dwarf went crazy. This time it was Stukos Zonathel, Gem cutter, who claimed a jeweler's workshop, and after picking lapislazuli, nickel, copper and bones, proceeded to create "Edosudiz", a lapislazuli figurine of Etur Machinemyths.
Save:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3JDOE4I2Well, this is it. Sorry for being so slow, but my computer was playing this at around 5 fps (damn big fortress we got here). It took about 20 hours to do my whole turn
.
I don't know who designed the fortress, but man, does it work well. At first I thought it was quite chaotic, but works like a charm, if a bit slowly with all the hauling going on. We may have a seed overflow problem going on, though.
Oh yeah, another thing for the next overseer(s): The pillar of the pyramid is not quite yet finished. If you can spare a minute or two, I'd be grateful if you could finish it and, if you're very bored, remove the remaining scaffolding.
