When Horses Attack

UPDATE 2: After over 9000 goblin ambushes they finally caught my final dwarf with his pants down in a bush and viciously raped and then killed him. GG

UPDATE: I fell into a tantrum spiral, which when all was said and done left a total of three dwarves alive. Not much, but they were sane and working. Then a goblin ambush hit. I have a single dwarf locked into the food/drink storage room. So he's safe and well-supplied. I'll have to wait for a trade caravan to clear out the ten or so goblins that just slaughtered an untimely migrant wave. Smells like Dwarf Fortress.

I have what to me is probably my most hilawlrious story of my DF career. I'll try and keep it concise.

Fortress Name: Rackfuture
Location: Middle of nowhere.
Population: 40 (or so, not exactly sure at the time of incident)

1. Elves have come before the flooding trap for the Trade Depot can be completed. Hasty make-shift measures are taken and the elves are trapped in by floodgates.

2. Months pass. The elves slowly fall into insanity. Little do the dwarves know the real threat is not crazy elves, but berserk animals.

3. The elves finally lose their sanity - along with a lone horse. The horse proceeds to slaughter the caravan members in a matter of seconds.

4. After some careful consideration, the dwarves conclude that a lone horse will be easy prey for four dwarves in full steel with adequate combat skills. Little do they suspect what is to come.

5. The floodgates are hooked up to a lever and the gates to hell are opened.

6. The military put up a good fight, but are killed one by one. The horse has all four legs broken and is bruised and battered to hell, but still manages to finish off the last of the military survivors.

7. The horse proceeds to trample through the fortress with four broken/fractured legs and all kinds of internal damage. He knows no pain.

8. He proceeds to chase a large group of dwarves down a hallway towards a dead-end farm patch. Already a third of the fortress is dead.

9. In a desperate move, the dwarves wall off seven or eight of their comrades in hopes saving themselves. The trapped dwarves are slaughtered in a matter of minutes.

10. Several dwarves are forcibly nominated for military service. Three dwarves go and peel the armor off their eviscerated comrades and charge down to battle the heavily wounded horse, praying that in its weakened state they can kill it.

11. While the ramshackle militia do battle with the beast, tantrums are being thrown left and right in the dining hall. Then all hell breaks loose. A legendary miner goes berserk. Holding a pick. This will not end well.

12. The military finishes killing the horse after sustaining some moderate injuries just as the berserk miner begins his killing spree, putting his pick through dwarf skulls left and right. The exhausted military are sent charging off to battle the new threat. The fort is now a mere twenty dwarves.

13. The militia quickly silences the unarmored miner, but no before he downs another two dwarves. All is silent throughout the fort except for the sound of several dwarves sobbing silently in the dining hall.

14. For now, the killing has ended. Blood covers nearly every inch of the fortress. The human caravan that came during the middle of this catastrophe is probably wondering what the hell is going on only floors beneath them, hearing only screams too quickly silenced.

The trade depot.

The floor with the farm plot to the south.

The farm plot and the hallway where many a dwarf life was lost.

The floor with the dining hall and the aftermath of the berserk miner.

!!Elves!! would actually be kinda cool as a civ symbol.  !!Clowns!!, however, you get the impression they're on fire of their own free, malicious, evil, will.

Also, much scarier if literally clowns.

Well...

Fuck.

Horses, dralthas, all of the bunch are evil. Surprisingly, elephants are still tame, ever since we calmed them down in the last version. Welcome to fucking Dwarf Fortress, hope you'll enjoy the skeletal whale.
