I like it.  Looks like I'll be handling defense while you handle offense.
pretty much, although neither of us are going too far in either extreme

which is a good idea in this tournament, i think!
Your next opponents are the pretty-well balanced Melvin and Ravus, so it should be an interesting match..
yeah, definitely

i did a few tests (not too many though because setting up these matches is really complex, mad props to you for doing them for 32 people) and neither team has much of an advantage

but where they have skill we have our warrior spirits!!

Quarter-Finals
Match One

The Smith (Minotaur) and Turamuthro (Human) versus Maple Willow Aspen (Dwarf Hippy) and Gutstabberson, Son of Gutstabber (Minotaur)
Managers Duriel, TurkeyXIII, Mysteriousbluepuppet, and Howells

"Well Olon, it's a brand new day. Birds are singing, the sun is shining, and people are going to die!"
"That's right! It's the first day of the Quarter Finals of the Bay12 DF Gladiator Challenge, and the crowd is huge! I've never seen a crowd like this, Urist!"
"The massive turnout might be due to today's match, Olon. In the ring, we've got The Smith and Turamuthro who, if you remember, crushed MadJax and The Grey Fiend to qualify for the Quarter Finals! The Smith used his previous winnings to suit up in a nice set of armor, while Turamuthro has spent some time practicing with his pike!"
"And look at that, Urist! Maple Willow Aspen and Gutstabberson are entering the ring! Maple has traded in his already lethal silver whip for a devastating Platinum Scourge! Gutstabberson seems to be trusting in his ability to stab guts, and has not made any new purchases."
"Good gravy, Olon, he's naked! Start this match already!"

Gutstabberson opens the match, stomping across the arena floor to deal with Turamuthro. He knocks the pike-wielding human over with a fierce blow to the armor, then turns his ire on the Smith, who was attempting to sneak attack him! Gutstabberson resolves this problem by stabbing the Smith right in the mouth.

Maple Willow Aspen prances in and scourges The Smith right in the leg! The sheer weight of his weapon means that the minotaur's armor offers barely any protection, and there is a loud crack as his hip breaks! Tearing free of Gutstabberson's pike, The Smith rushes Maple Willow Aspen, but the dwarf hippy dodges deftly and lashes him again! Enraged, the Smith goes for it another time, only to be dodged once more. A third attempt ends in disaster, as the Smith misses entirely, allowing Maple Willow Aspen to lay a huge blow on his shoulder, knocking him out.

Turamuthro has made it to his feet, but Gutstabberson is having none of it! Charging like some kind of large, male, bovine animal, he couches his pike and drives it into Turamuthro's chest, knocking him to the ground and tearing several muscles. The match is over by this point, as Gutstabberson and Maple Willow Aspen beat on their opponents until movement ceases entirely.

Winner: Maple Willow Aspen and Gutstabberson, Son of Gutstabber!

"Fantastic! That Yuktobanian Whip Dance is really something to see, eh Olon?"
"Not quite as fantastic as a majestic minotaur impaling his opponents with a huge bronze spear, Urist!"
"Er..."
"I mean that in an entirely non-sexual way."

Quarter-Finals
Match Two

Great Sword (Human) and The Pointy End (Elf) versus Mr. Pokey (Soldier Antwoman) and Urist mc Axedorf (Gremlin)
Managers LAAT501Legion, Arthur Wilborn, Breadbocks, and Mipe9

"Well Olon, it's the second day of the Quarter Finals, and I am excited!"
"With good reason, Urist. Today we've got a thrilling matchup - the human Great Sword, who has used his winnings to buy a full suit of armor, and his ridiculously accurate partner, The Pointy End! I hear he's gotten a lot better with that bow since his last match!"
"He'll have to be. Their opponent is the antwoman Mr. Pokey, who has traded in her steel spear for one made of the blue stuff! And I thought Adamantine was supposed to be rare!"
"Not as rare as a Slade Whip, which is what Urist McAxedorf is wielding! Remember, last round, Urist McAxedorf's whip disabled their largest foe and allowed Mr. Pokey to get the win!"
"We'll see if the same thing happens this time, Olon."
"That's right, Urist! And this match begins now!"

The Pointy End makes good use of his bow skills, opening the match by firing an arrow at Mr. Pokey. The arrow penetrates her armor and tears a leg! Not a good start, and Great Sword takes advantage of the opening to charge Mr. Pokey, sword swinging! He misses horribly, however, and Urist McAxedorf steps in and lashes him twice from behind, breaking some bones!

The Pointy End fires another arrow, this time scoring a solid hit to the thorax of Mr. Pokey, but undaunted, the antwoman makes a furious stab at Great Sword - shattering his nail!!! The crowd goes wild at this unprecedented display of violence and gore. Great Sword quickly pulls away and knocks Urist McAxedorf over, attempting to strike through his guard.

Mr. Pokey attempts to use the same trick that dispatched the Paralyzer in the last round, but misses her mark and instead impales Great Sword through the back, taking another arrow from The Pointy End as she does so. She begins to stab Great Sword into unconsciousness, heedless of the arrows being sent her way by the elven archer.

She drives her adamantine spear into Great Sword's body, but the effort is too much and Mr. Pokey falls unconscious. Urist takes uip the slack, breaking every single bone in Great Sword's body as Mr. Pokey bleeds to death rather rapidly. Great Sword briefly regains consciousness only to pass out and begin throwing up all over himself.

Perhaps in sympathy, or maybe it's the arrow that just tagged him in the stomach, Urist begins to throw up as well. He falls over and spews dark green vomit all over the place.

Sickened by this bizarre barf-party, the Pointy End looses every single arrow he has into the prone gremlin, eventually shooting his hand off. The gremlin bleeds to death in short order.

Winner: Great Sword and the Pointy End!

"My god, Olon."
"I've never seen so much vomit in my life, Urist."
"Neither have I- URGLURGLE" *spatter*
"Can we get some cleanup here?"

Hahah, all that vomit!

Also, Arthur, I was a gremlin. Armour doesn't matter. If say, a minotaur would hit me and I had say, full slade armours, with a bronze mace or something, I would probably just fly to the opposite side of the arena and crash into the wall and die or something :d

Quarter-Finals
Match Three

Kilakan (Yeti) and ACANTHOR (Minotaur) versus Spanner and Mr. Stabs (Kobolds)
Managers Kilakan, Acanthus117, Mekboy, and Flagarus

"We are half-way through the Quarter-Final round of the Bay 12 Gladiator Challenge Tag Tournament, and Olon, am I wired!"
"Well Urist, so am I. Today we're looking at what could considered a rematch: the yeti Kilakan, all armored in silver, and the Minotaur ACANTHOR, against two tiny kobolds!"
"But not just any kobolds, Urist. These are Spanner, kobold ninja extraordinaire, and Mr. Stabs, holder of a nice adamantine spear!"
"Will we see a repeat of the previous matchup? Will the big guys smash these tiny kobolds into paste? Or will the kobolds uphold their race's proud tradition of facing staring death in the face and stabbing it in the neck?"
"We'll see, Urist. That match is on... now!"

ACANTHOR opens the match in the customary way, stomping across the arena floor to let loose a blow with his maul directed at Mr. Stabs, who very nearly leaps right out of the arena in terror. ACANTHOR's monstrous strike sends Mr. Stabs tumbling head over heels, and for a moment it looks like the minotaur has the advantage - but only for a moment, as lightning-quick, Mr. Stabs thrusts ACANTHOR in the neck hard with his spear! There is a huge gout of blood as an artery in his neck breaks open!

ACANTHOR desperately tries to recoup by smashing at Mr. Stabs again, but the kobold parries the blow easily from his position on the ground and sends his spear shooting up again, breaking ACANTHOR's horn! The minotaur bellows at his Yeti partner to hurry the hell up. It appears all that silver armor has weighed him down.

Having sneaked around to a more advantageous position, Spanner seizes his opportunity and in a single motion, cuts off ACANTHOR's hand! Resolving to disarm the minotaur completely, he darts across to his other side and stabs him in the hand that is still attached, forcing him to drop his weapon and theoretically taking him out of the fight and allowing Mr. Stabs to get to his feet.

Theoretically. As Spanner stabs ACANTHOR in the leg, failing to penetrate his armor, the minotaur tosses his huge head and knocks Mr. Stabs off his feet again with a well placed gore. His armor absorbing the brunt of Spanner's blows, ACANTHOR continues to savage Mr. Stabs with his horns.

As Mr. Stabs gets to his feet shakily, Kilakan finally manages to close the distance, but Spanner deals another one of those lethal disabling strikes to his hand, forcing him to drop the hammer. With both huge combatants now unarmed, the kobolds have their work cut out for them simply bringing them down.

ACANTHOR continues to savage Mr. Stabs with his horn, and it turns out that his armor purchases were a wise decision, as the blows fail to penetrate. Meanwhile, Kilakan hurls himself at the tiny Spanner, intending to crush the kobold ninja under his massive bulk. This plan backfires as his full weight lands on Spanner's dagger.

The yeti flails around for a few more seconds then falls unconscious, as does ACANTHOR a few seconds later. While normally unconsciousness would mean instant defeat, these two are simply too big for Spanner and Mr. Stabs to dispatch easily, so they spend quite a while stabbing at them.

Once again the arena floor is covered in vomit. Good lord.

Winner: Spanner and Mr. Stabs!

"Incredible, Olon! They've done it! They've beaten the odds!"
"And they've beaten the team I was betting on, Urist!"
"Never bet against the underdog, Olon. And since you lost the bet, go clean up the vomit."

Next match: Ravus Maniacus and Melvin the Mace versus Vox and The Spartan

This match was quite long, actually. Lasted about 5 seconds, compared to an average of 3 for the others.

Quarter-Finals
Match Four!

Ravus Maniacus (Dwarf) and Melvin the Mace (Goblin) versus Vox (Dwarf) and The Spartan (Human)
Managers RavingManiac, Carpman, Vox Nihili, and Mountain-King (in the halls of the)

"This is it, folks! Olon, here we are at the threshold of the Semi-Finals!"
"That's right, Urist! And we're looking at one of the most highly anticipated matches yet. Ravus Maniacus and Melvin the Mace, against Vox and The Spartan!"
"If you remember, Olon, we're looking at a lot of experience here in this ring. Ravus Maniacus won one of the prototypical Bay12 Challenges to become the Deadliest Dwarf some years back! And Melvin's no slouch either. Both of them have armored up considerably for this match, and they'll need it!"
"Today, they're facing Vox and The Spartan, who prefer to fight unarmored. Both of them have traded in their weapons for shiny new steel ones, and spent the rest of the time training!"
"We're looking at a contest of great equipment and surety versus sheer naked skill, Olon. Who will prevail? The previous champion?"
"Or the tournament's founder?"
"Heaven or hell, Olon!"
"Let's rock!"

Despite his heavy armor, Ravus Maniacus makes the first strike of the match, attempting to cleave Vox in two as Melvin circles around behind him. Vox counterstrikes, lancing Ravus in the chest through his armor and knocking him unconscious - all in the first few seconds of the match!

Melvin attempts to avenge Ravus by smashing Vox's foot. This is a lot less effective than one might expect. Vox angles his knife at Melvin, seeking an opening, but Melvin catches the strike on his shield and falls backwards.

The Spartan swings his spear around and tries to lance the unconscious Ravus, breaking his leg despite the mail shirt, whilst Melvin and Vox are engaged in their own duel. Abnormally quick for a dwarf, Vox manages to land three penetrating strikes on Melvin, finally lodging one in his shoulder before Melvin can get to his feet.

Vox wrenches the dagger out of his opponent and stabs him again, this time sinking his weapon deep into the goblin's chest. The Spartan makes his own attack and transfixes Melvin in the guts, just as Vox severs his arm at the elbow. Melvin collapses from the pain, allowing Vox to stab him again, this time in the spine, causing him to drop his mace.

This is all exactly as painful as it sounds.

Ravus Maniacus regains consciousness just in time to see Vox chop off Melvin's foot. After a few more ineffectual strikes, The Spartan gets to his feet - which certainly explains why he hadn't been very effective up until this point - and he and Vox go and rain blows down on the downed Ravus.

His armor protects him from several potential decapitations, and The Spartan turns to Melvin the Mace out of frustration and jams his spear into his chest once more. Melvin finally bleeds to death.

The hail of blows continues, and Ravus' armor effectively only prolongs the punishment, until after many strikes, he finally bleeds to death.

Winner: Vox and The Spartan

"That was a complete curb stomp, Olon!"
"I'll say! Vox and the Spartan completely dominated that matchup with their teamwork!"
"And there's no vomit anywhere! Fantastic!"
"You can tell there's a problem when having no barf all over the floor is an unusual thing, Urist."

Last round, was I a Competent or a Skilled Armor user? Probably Competent, but I just noticed that I accidentally spent the 20 points for Skilled, instead of the 12 Competent would have cost. Can I retroactively become a Skilled armor user so that I can now upgrade it for less? :D
If so, Talented Armor User (42-20=22) and
Novice Fighter (3)

If not, Proficient Armor User (30-12=18)
Competent Fighter (9)

As well as:
Bronze Leggings (28)
Accomplished Spear User (275-140=135)
Accomplished ( Tiny ) Dodger (220-112=108)

Either 2 or 0 points left over.

Totals:
Accomplished Spear User
Accomplished ( Tiny ) Dodger
Talented/Proficient Armor User
Novice/Competent Fighter

Adamantine Spear
Bronze Helm
Bronze Leggings
Bronze Breastplate

Worried about this next fight...
