Hedgewars: Free Worms (semi)clone
« on: August 27, 2010, 06:01:17 pm »

http://www.hedgewars.org/

It plays very similar to Worms Armageddon, in my experience.  It doesn't have exactly the same weapons, only functionally similar ones; I mean, it's not a straight clone, just a veryverysimilar genre title.  You can still rope all over the place and drop dynamite on people, or shotgun them for 25+25 damage, whatever...if you played Worms, it's instantly recognizable.  So what if the Holy Hand Grenade is now a demon bomb.

Also...Similar to Team Fortress 2, this is actually an artillery-themed hat simulator.  Each wormhedgehog on your team can wear their own different little hat!

It's free, and it has a generally thriving online community.  Users can submit their own random map art-sets, which is cool.  And unlike the new Worms game in that other thread, you can have plenty of hedgehogs on the map at once...

WA was a rock-solid game.  Not much is going to be better than WA.  But new games sure as hell can be more stable on modern machines, which is nice...and hey, community content.

Posted this before, tried (albeit barely) to get a semi-regular Bay12 game going, failed utterly.

Ok, I played this game last night and it was able to capture WA's random lucky moments and charm.
So I fell in love with it, and its hats.

It is very finicky. But still fun.

Me and Hugehead were playing earlier. If you want to play, drop in the steam community chat room.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Watched the first Dev video on their page. Got to 1:10, paused video.

Portal gun. Next version. Working awesome.

Downloading. Never realized how much I missed WA.  :D

Enter and backspace, you can use backspace twice to doublejump.
