Gladiator match with caged elf on a platform suspended over lava by a single support. Winner takes a magma bath with the corpse.

I'm also interested in suggestions. I tried editing in [PET] tags so I could tame them but my results are not really what I had in mind. It lets me train about a third of them via the kennels (not sure why only some, couldn't see a pattern). As soon as I release one of these "tame trolls" however the dwarf who released it runs and then the dogs/military quickly kill it. Also had a baby troll born to one of the caged trolls, who I also "tamed", but was killed (slowly) by someone's pet dog.

Dump it in the pit of other disarmed hostile creatures for, ah, "amusing" nobles.

Put it as decoration in the nobles room.

I have no idea how that switch got hooked up to it.

You could always mod in [BUTCHERABLE] and turn them into delicious "troll biscuits" and tallow for soap. It's a very effective way to deal with surplus trolls.

Deconstruct the cage, move the cage to where ever you need it.

And then it's pretty much a normal fortress from then on.
I find the idea of a normal fortress amusing.

There is no [BUTCHERABLE] token - since trolls are intelligent creatures, your dwarves will only butcher them if you modify their ethics to permit eating sapient creatures.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
