When I downloaded and pressed R to reclaim, DF crashed. Hooray.

Same with me... it's almost like the top right corner of the map is corrupted.

Oh god. What the hell will Worldgen do next? We've had an adamantine space elevator, floating caverns and now this!
Elaborate.
Seconding this.

It'll be interesting to see what the next hiccup in the fabric of reality will be. Maybe upside-down HFS in the sky.

Did you just say Elves are peaceful?  How can Elves be peaceful?  Every time they arrive at a Dwarf Fortress there is a massacre and much blood letting!

The bug definitely has to be hard to replicate since only two people have posted about this kind of thing happening that I know of (the space elevator thread and this one).  It definitely looks like the same bug causing both.

Humorously enough, I'd consider it a feature myself, if only it was something that could be replicated by using the same worldgen settings.   :o

Incidentally, is this one causing any further weirdness, like how the Spire stopped dwarves picking up tools?

Nope.   I abandoned and reclaimed, in hopes that would get rid of the HFS's FPS hit.   The reclaim works as it's supposed to, except that it's still running really slow-it's slower than my other fortress with 60+ dwarves and a series of tapped-aquifer waterfalls draining into the underground sea.   I'm not sure if the HFS is still sucking up processor power, or if it's the waterfall into the caverns.

Thats the thread about the floating caverns, its like this, except a chuck of my caverns were floating in mid air, and they fell from the heavens, just missing a dragon. And HFS was not revealed.
Picture for the lazy.

If someone can load my save that is posted in that thread in fort mode, it would be nice if you could run reveal on it.

Well i managed to load the open caverns save, in a ubuntu VM, embarked, saved then brought the save over to my w7 machine so i could do this;
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Alas all my dorfs are too fearful to do anything, much like how they were awestruck by the adamantine spire, i abandoned and then tried reclaiming on W7, but it just instacrashed again, off to see if they do anything on ubuntu again, i assume your running the mac version asnys?

Well, i abandoned and reclaimed again, my dorfs except the fisherman refuse to work, so i guess for people on nix or win that its much the same as the adam spire, my fps is only about 15 which is about what it was on the spire, but using that as a guide, migrant waves will probably be able to work properly and i should be able to build things, if ofc either the carpenter would actually deconstruct one of the 3 caravans all parked next to each other precariously on the edge of the brook, so not really that precarious but it looks it :P. I might abandon again and next time bring more wood, but i don't fancy waiting out several migrant waves before i have a hole to call home. Theres some mean looking gorillas only a screen or two away, if a migrant wave comes that way it'll doom them all.

Is that water natural to the caverns or is it all floodwater from the brook?
