Hey Dwarvenly Sirs and Madames, RoboCo's latest project: The Steampunk Cloud Lamp is in progress.

The first tier of the brass loop pyramid is successfully painted. We used Jake Von Slatt's method of image transference to get the image on. We were able to pick up a Laser printer for a couple bucks, and the ironing process (with a few tries) has worked pretty well.

We'll be doing the electro-etching on Sunday, and I'll update then.

Status update!

Life has been pretty crazy the last month or so. We put the etching on hold. Now, after some trial and error, we have some small progress.



We used a copper sulfate mixture to etch. We're outfitting an old power box from a PC for our new power supply, but until then we've been using a laptop power cable.
Safely we can get to around 5.5 amps. It's slow, but it's yielded some results.



Here's an internal view of the etching.



And our progress thus far. The water got hot because of the current running through it, so the toner began to flake.

With a higher amp we'll be able to etch deeper, faster, and less damage to the toner (so, cleaner etch).
