The story of Boatspeak (community game)
« on: August 25, 2010, 06:48:48 am »

So I was thinking of creating a community game. If I am correct about what it is then I would really like to do it. So um... I guess it's up to you to pick what dwarves I embark with. Everyone can also have 1 dwarf named after them. If that dwarf dies then you can choose another dwarf to give your name to. So yeah... Vote what dwarves to start with.

All of them are proficient teachers and proficient liars.
Embark with one pick, one log, and two rock nuts.

Can training axes be used to chop down trees ? If so I bet that it takes a long time.

Obviously this is going to be fun!
Also suggest where to embark.
Oh and not that I don't like if you post in this thread but that was completely and utterly off-topic Tsarwash.
You will have plenty of time for suggestions because of unfortunate and previously unknown circumstances I can't play Dwarf Fortress tomorrow. I will be on the forums a little though.

Your not playing Dwarf Fortress right if you don't see a message saying a Kitten (tame) had died in some horrible manner over and over again.

Seems like there was a misunderstanding and I do get to play Dwarf Fortress today. I'll try to squeeze everything into today as I also got a succession game going.

Well I embarked. I wonder how am I going to survive here. Actually you are sort of in charge. So good luck! I doubt you will last a year. The fortress name is Shieldriddled. I embarked with all teachers/liars, 42 female kittens, 1 male kitten, 1 iron pick, 1 maple log, 2 rock nuts, 1 copper bar and 1 fungiwood crutch. So here I am! With an almost empty caravan, a load of kittens in a sinister place with frozen salt water, many aquafiers, almost no trees and the embark screen hinted that there are werewolves here. So I barely have any food, nothing to drink, everyone is a loser and OH MY GOD I don't know what else. The place is flat with the ocean on the top left a few lakes here and there and a lower area on the top left. What are you going to do to survive the year?
Hint from me: Go find a cave. The water probably isn't frozen there so your dwarves won't die of thirst.

Make one miner channel straight down until he hits caverns. Make a hermit fort, let everyone else die of starvation. If he dies when falling, throw another dwarf in so pick won't be lost. If everyone dies... Well, this was madness to begin with ;)

Well... I did the 1st season with no other orders but now I need some because you forgot to give me an anvil! The dwarves are thirsty even though there is water in the lakes that just melted and in the cave I found. I blocked the cave so no creatures could get to my dwarves. Only through water. Butchered a few kittens for food and gathered the plants I could find on ground. I need serious help!
OK I kinda' lied. I had a few days until the end of the season. All of the dwarves died of thirst. Now what? I got as much smarter that each dwarf lasts an exact amount of time without water when you embark. It's almost 3 months. But really. Now what? Any more smart ideas of embarking in a place like that?

You embarked near an ocean right? That means all water on the map will be salt water, AKA undrinkable, unless you desalinate it with a well or screwpump (see the wiki for details).

Dwarven Science FTW

Any more smart ideas of embarking in a place like that?
A treeless, evil ocean? I'd say: Have atleast one decent fighter and a Miner. Enough logs to last until you get to the caverns. Lots of booze and food. Plump helmet spawns, and an underground cavern farm (it's way too dangerous to depend on what you can gather in the caverns). You could take an anvil with you, but you could also just trade some rock crafts for one when the caravan arrives (if you last that long). Also a cage to put you kittens in :) .

Need anything else? Also I'd like to be dorfed on your new attempt. Preferably as a doctor, or else as any role that does NOT include running headfirst at hordes of werewolves, undead, goblins, etc.
