Well... Yeah I'm doing a new try but I'm still open for new ideas. Perhaps reclaim? I will mix the suggestions into something. So suggest away! Oh and Arcane, I think the point was to make it really hard. If I would have acted quicker and thought it a little more though I would have survived. I could have made a bucket, mechanisms, collect some of the spider webs, make it into rope, made some blocks and then built a well. I had plenty of food back there. Oh and I think there isn't a map with no trees. Unless you mod it. There were 30-40 trees on the map even though it said: Trees: None!.

embark in an tropical moist broadleaf forest. With some evil around it near a mountain and just embark with whatever items you think you need having elephants and undead will make it hard enough lol.

Your not playing Dwarf Fortress right if you don't see a message saying a Kitten (tame) had died in some horrible manner over and over again.

Well my turn at that succession game ended so I now have time to attend this. I am not very good with choosing a location so... If I remember correctly then it was some sort of tropical forest with a brook in an evil area. I embarked with a miner/mason/engraver, mechanic/miner/engraver, building designer/leader/appraiser/bookkeeper/organizer, woodcutter/carpenter, suturer/wound dresser/diagnostican/bone doctor/surgeon, animal trainer/butcher/herbalist/grower/brewer and a hammerdwarf/shield user/armor user/dodger. ArcaneSaint wanted to be a doctor so that role is taken. I took 28 fish, 30 plump helmet spawn, 2 iron war hammers, (Other metal items are copper.) 3 pickaxes, 1 battle axe, copper armor for the hammerdwarf, 1 iron anvil, 3 cave spider silk ropes, 2 kittens and 2 dogs. The map has a brook in the north-west corner, a few lakes north-west and east, slopes south and east, trees and plants with some of the trees being evil and many phantom spider webs on the ground. No evil in sight just a fox. Oh and here is ArcaneSaints profile page:
