The dark, cool water of the ocean was stirred by dancing spears of sunlight that made their way as far into the depths as they could before being swallowed up by the darkness.  The Aegeans swam through these upper waters with the same ethereal grace as they had always had in the water, but now there was something different.  The water felt almost as though it had started to tremble with the same anticipation as the Aegeans themselves, as though it were awaiting their arrival just as much as as the Aegeans wished to arrive.  They were close now, very close.  They could feel it, the ocean could feel it.

Site:

The site covers an area of roughly eight acres by six acres. The entire site is filled with structures of various shapes and sizes.

Structures:

The structures themselves appear superficially similar to our own, composed primarily of wood and stone, with some metal structural features. Most of the wooden elements have been burned away by some sort of fire, hence the column of smoke which led us to the site.

Inhabitants:

The inhabitants of this site posess many odd features. Their bodies are almost entirely hairless, save for a large, shaggy crop on the tops of their heads. Their faces are blunt and rounded. What are assumed to be their ears are small and rounded, located on the sides of their heads.

Our initial examination of the more intact corpses shows no lethal trauma of any kind. It appears as if the entire population simply fell dead where they stood, with no prior cause.

Artifacts:

We have found many noteworthy items within the ruins. All I can say for certain at the moment, is that many of these items are nothing short of amazing. I will attach a more detailed description of our findings in my next message.

and they set upon the dipane who I was set to protect, and as my duty was I acted to defend them from the evil lifelaeslomenanes, I charged, and I lost my legs to their axes, then my right arm, the last thing I remember before all went dark is the screaming vomit-drenched beard and steel coming quickly towards my face...

And that is how I died, or that is what I assume happened.
