Kailith watched from his camel as his wounded soldiers wearily marched from the field of battle back to their tents, many leaving their weapons behind in the sand. It was well understood that many families would have lost a father, but such was the price Gregnar demanded of them.

"I want the bodies of all those who died in the battle buried tomorrow. Even those of our enemy." Kailith said to Hamar.

"Yes, of course." The priest responded. "It shall be done, my lord."

"I also want more trees downed, so that we may build more suitable lodgings. Several workers arrived with the reinforcement caravan, I see. I want them working on the exposed stone in the forest, mining."

Hamar nodded and replied "Consider it done, oh great one."

And with that, Kailith departed and joined Caliph and the rest of his raiding part for another excursion into the palm forest. He had no time to savor victory, not when there was work to do.

[OOC]Been busy today, got my replacement motherboard, had to go to the school for something (only to get there and realize the office is empty due to spring break) worked on the pokemod, and then got invited to a unofficial smash brothers tournament between a group of friends.

During our retreat a section of the trees had caught fire.  We are currently unsure whether it was Youh intervening or just chance.  He hasn't been saying much lately, but according to some of his casual followers Youh can do fire stuff.  Coulda fooled me.

We have been beaten.  The humans are braver than I expected, their civilians held the front line long enough and distracted us while the main army struck at our flanks.  I underestimated my enemies tactical skill. At least the flaming inferno will prevent an immediate counterattack.

The wind is blowing in our direction, sending smoke and fire our way.  Our city is made of stone and a simple fire will not harm us, but food supplies and other flammables had to be placed in secured basements until the fire passes.  There is also some worry that the hunting will suffer from this burn.

Chances of easily expanding to the west is currently looking slim. But word is that the southern ocean is ours.  There are even indications of the island in the center could be volcanic.  If it truly is that would help morale substantially.  We would also be able to produce real steel instead of our second rate dracoroot stuff.  Who needs more desert when we could have the warmth of magma instead?

[Impending Doom]

The marksdwarf awakens to find himself bound to a chair in the middle of a small, dark room lit only by a single, dim lantern. He pulls at his ropes for a moment, but they refuse to give. After struggling vainly for several minutes, he hears the sound of a door being opened, then closed from behind him, and a single female coyote steps into the lantern light. "See you're awake." she says. "Gave our lads quite a scrap out there, ye did. They tell me it took three of 'em ta bring you down." She slowly walks around behind him, and leans over the back of his chair, staring into his eyes. "But enough about that, I digress. Let's start out simple: What's yer name?"

The swordsdwarf squad was moving away from the cavalry. Two wounded dwarves being carried by the four still standing. "Move it lads! Stop stumblin' all over tha place will ye? Them things are right behind us!" Though it seemed they werent being followed yet for whatever reason. Of course this close to the fortress they probably wouldnt risk it.

Jencull's group moved on. He had dreams last night, nightmares even. He wasnt sure if it was just the silence getting to him or if it was something else. There were dwarves in battle, with things, similar to those in the forest. Though everything was distorted with blood, the cries of dwarves and the hum of bolts. Then everything went dark. Whatever it meant, the forest was getting thinner and north seemed to be the best direction to head. He didnt know why, but it was.

The restrained dwarf mumbled a bit. "Oh aye, I'll be tellin' ye my name when ye bloody well tell me exactly what ye did to my men! Where are we anyway and what kind of scum are ye? A dwarf killed in battle for the glory of Hermatus! But ta be captured like this! Like some pig hangin' from tha ceilin' waitin' ta be butchered into fine ham steaks!"

(OOC: One thing Imp: you're not mentioning combat related stuff in enough detail. I cant fight something I dont know, so what are the numbers of the cavalry, what kind of weapons do they use, how does a chariot work without something pulling it, etc?)

[Impending Doom]

(OOC: Sorry about that Dark. I tend to forget things like that, so please remind me again in the future.

Okay. The 'cavalry' is basically an armored chariot, as I have already said. Each carries four occupants: one manning (coyote-ing?) the 'reins', two operating whatever weapons the chariot is carrying (in this case, all are equipped with one mounted crossbow and a javelin-thrower), and one to 'pull' the whole contraption via what can only be described as "a giant, coyote-powered hamster wheel."(this is the same sort of contraption used to pull the caravan wagons.) These are very costly to make material-wise, so there are currently only four on the battlefield, which is about a third of the total currently in existence.

There are also twenty crossbows on the north bank of the river, but they will probably only attack if the cavalry is unsuccessful in repelling your dwarves.

Most of this probably sounds quite far-fetched, or even downright ridiculous, but all of this information (and everything else concerning my coyotes) was written down long ago by me for a set of stories completely unrelated to this. Please tell me if I need to change anything.)

Log of Hamar, Priest of Gregnar

Kailith has been gone for several days on a scouting mission, and as such I now control the city. Why he left us in such a hurry after our victory against these Dracon confounds the entire priesthood here in Kalar (we have, after much discussion, finally named our fledgling settlement after its glorious leader)

Even more interesting is the spontaneous fire that erupted in the oasis forest recently. It normally would not concern us, but we need food to support the sudden influx of soldiers, and all farming was done along the fertile soil along the oasis pools. We can only pray to Gregnar this disaster will not continue for much longer and will leave the forest intact.

We managed to hunt a larger supply of animals than normal due to them all fleeing the fire into the desert where they are much easier to find.  But it's likely the last of the game we will ever get from this area.

Scouts have reported that the area around the human settlement is barely touched by the fires. We won't be able to hunt there do to the proximity to their city, but it doesn't seem to be a large enough area to support them with hunting alone.  Unlike us humans are supposed to be able to farm for food but I don't know how much food they can supply themselves with by doing so.

I have sent off another group of constructors to make another outpost. To the south in the forests near the ocean. Another such expedition was sent from the capital to the east. I don't like the idea of having only one food source.

An oddity is that we have heard nothing more from the humans. I am worried that they may be up to something.  I have had scouting groups on the north and south edges of the fire to warn of any attacks but they have reported nothing.  I don't believe we wounded them enough to prevent another attack, so I have decided to expand the scouting missions farther to the north and south.  I want to know where they are, humans with their short lifespans are too antsy to be waiting around in their city.

Word has reached me from the scouts, now that the smoke near the enemy city has started to dissipate, that the humans appear to have buried our dead.  Though I understand the action, some of the dracon that have spent less time around humans seem to be angered by this.  The fact that we ourselves would not be able to do a traditional volcanic burial in our current situation seems to have fallen on deaf ears.  I will have to remember to treat their dead in the same respectful fashion in the future.  Perhaps if we capture one of them we should ask about their traditions regarding the matter.  Warriors are warriors no matter the race and I wish to treat them with respect.

(OOC: This isnt a proper turn! Just a few things, on Kagus' request I have moved his peoples farther along the river and shall continue to do so until they reach the open sea. Ive also put in a small lake into what used to be the centre of the desert oasis, as pools of water have been mentioned and it certainly fits with the world. Just presume the water was hidden by the dense cluster of trees.

It should also be noted that the water is definetly not safe to drink due to the high levels of ash completely coating the area. Should prove to be a brilliant fertilizer though! By the way, you can move ground troops through the one tiled lake. Just treat it as as a shallow muddy pool.

One last thing, Apache: if you dont post soon I'll be forced to collapse your civilization, turning it into a ruin and goldmine for adventurers to plunder.)

The blocks were assembled and and Yammish had arranged them into a dwarven rune meaning 'materials'. From the outpost atop the mountain, it should be no problem seeing this. All he had to do now was wait, hopefully not too long!

The group had reached the edge of the wood, and Jencull could see structures to the northwest, most likely close to the mountain. It was possible his people had already expanded to the east quite a bit already, the forest did slow them down after all. But somehow he felt it was something more sinister, and his dream still flashed in his head. Though it was best not to dwell there, they had better move on...

Greentoes had just finished writing up the documents and had sent it off to Kylken, who signed it. The shipment of metal and food was sent and that was that. The troops had returned too, out of the eight, three were wounded but there were no dead. Normally this would be considered a victory, had their mission not been to retrieve his men. However from what was said, the caravan was laden with wood, so most likely they were still in the enemy's camp.

He was having doubts though, and Kylken wasnt helping, all he said was "Hermatus works in mysterious ways!". He was suposed to be the high priest, he should know what Hermatus wants! But still, the gods are mysterious, who really did know what Hermatus was up to? Though perhaps Jencull... "So Greentoes, how many swordsdwarfs shall you send this time? Perhaps a dozen marksdwarves led by thirty speardwarves? Perhaps just bring out the balistae eh?"

"Kylken the balistae are not for offense, if anything should be fighting these things, its us, not some machine. Infact I'm going to make it official, the balistae are for defense only!"

"As you wish Greentoes, ye have easily passed the first test of Hermatus. No doubt the balistae would harm our captive lads too, eh?"

"Ye flatter me to no degree Kylken, now go do whatever it is ye do and stop botherin' me, I've got mandates to manage, meetings to attend, I'm loaded down with work!"

"Very well, but what do you plan to do about our captive marksdwarves?"
