The two dwarves in the front of the group took the bolts and fell dead. Of the three survivors the two dwarves still standing looked at the charging group of skirmishers, then at each other. "For Hermatus?" "For Hermatus! Charge!" Both drew their swords and ran screaming straight into the charging skirmishers.

Kylken watched the events from far above. How interesting, they were throwing themselves blindly into combat! Either they're mad or they have strong faith, maybe both. Perhaps his plans wont come so easily...

There was smoke rising from the forest, Greentoes saw this. It could only be taken as a sign that Jencull was alright and had camped out there, but he needed comfirmation. "Send out two groups, aye, right now, I need ta know if Jencull is alright."

Yammish grinned, "Almost therenow lads, keep up the work! Hells openup that crate in tha back, beer for all!" There was a cheer from the dwarves and as the beer was served the boat lurched forward.

The skirmishers fell upon the three remaining dwarves. The first dwarf went down easily, wounding a single soldier. The next, however, put up a much better fight. He managed to fell three coyotes before a bash to the head knocked him out. One soldier approached the still concious injured dwarf.

"Shall I end him, sir?"

The dwarf gasped for breath as if to speak, but no words would come to him. The captain stood over him.

"No, stay your weapon, soldier. I have...plans for these two." He gestured towards the unconcious dwarf.

"Take that one, bind him, and toss him in one of the wagons. As for this one," he turned back to the wounded dwarf at his feet, "Take him back to camp and have his wounds tended to, but put two guards on him at all times."

(OOC: ok, this doesn't work, I have apparently RPed myself into a corner; I'll never get the 3 hours uninterrupted I need for that next update!

So, I really want to be a part of this, so how do I solve this problem and get a role that takes maybe 10 min to write an update for? Abandon these kobolds and start anew whit something faster? Any better ideas?

In the small force of desert people there was much relief. The Dracon had decided to fall back in their city instead of begin an aggressive assault on their positions. This gave many of the young men a chance to hone their skills with their wooden spears and bucklers. Under Kailith's guidance, they began harsh exercises and gradually improved in the skills of war.

Still, however, this small militia was devastatingly under-equipped. How could they even hope to beat these flying beasts? Perhaps they alone would not have to: a reinforcement caravan and army was seen from the town and was approaching their position. It would be the key to repelling their rivals. With the High Priests backing them up, victory looked like a good possibility.

The boat struck the shore with a hollow thud. "Alright we're here! Everyone out rightnow, tie the boat up well, noreally, it has to be tied good! I want miners upfront digging out the fort! It felt so good, and just think of the wonders they're going to find here! No longer would the other dwarves call him a smartass!

Jencull was eating minced plump helmet. He grabbed the syrup jug and gave his mince a heavy coating. "Blech, thank Hermatus we got this syrup with us, I couldnt stand eatin' plump helmet fer days on end... Go tell the farmers to plant more sweetpods, Armok have your soul if we run out of this stuff!"

This didnt have the desired effect. "Uhm, sir, w-who's Armok?"

"He's an anchient myth, dont tell me your worried about your soul!"

"N-no, its just a shiver went up meh beard when ye said that..."

"Yah well dont worry about it, now give those farmers their orders, I will -NOT- run out of syrup!"

With that the peasant hurried off. Bah, if Greentoes doesnt send someone down here soon he'll be out of syrup and the whole fortress will go stark raving mad! First group to arrive, he's getting out of here.

Greentoes stormed up to Kylken. "I'm not happy! Those brave lads down there, they died a meaningless death. Worse yet a couple were captured, come on Kylken, what does Hermatus want of us? We gotta do something!"

We have finished the most important of the defensive additions to the city, the half finished wall has been completed, a ballista has been built and the summoner's portal has been completed.  That portal should be able to transport supplies and reinforcements from the capital in small amounts. I believe the capacity for these lesser gates is about 300 pounds if I remember my academy training correctly.

Reports note that the enemy has a large number of camels, likely for cavalry.  We haven't fought an army with a cavalry in centuries. I've been putting more focus on the anti-cavalry drills during training but noone is armed with anything even resembling a spear, and it will take too long to retrain part of the unit.  According to my tactical books our greatsword wielders can be positioned in a formation to attack the mounts and break up a charge but even the book says that a spear formation is superior.

Now that the city is better defended we are moving out to begin our counterattack.  I was hoping to end this without any more bloodshed but from the looks of that large building to the southwest they are planning to stay. We will force them away if required.

My unit has been reinforced with an extra 20 soldiers bringing our unit up to 40 members, the rest of the military is stationed at the city.  The priest claims that Youh has told something called Garchomp to earthquake or somesuch.  She doesn't understand it either.

The woodcutters had just finished hauling their logs all the way to the underground storerooms. The fort was mostly complete and soon Yammish could lead another expedition, smaller this time, out into the open water of the lake.

Jencull watched from the fortifications. There was a migrant group a short way off, once they arrived he could set out again. The late night howls were starting to make most of the guards to sleep uneasy, though the civilians slept in rooms below the earth where the sound couldnt penetrate. Lucky them...

Greentoes paced back and forth. The camp had been there for a while and it didnt look like it would be abandoned anytime soon. Perhaps it would be best to launch a rescue now, but they would be waiting for it no doubt. Perhaps he should launch a rescue when they begin moving back to wherever they came from, but then he risked the chance they would make off with the marksdwarves. Then he wouldnt be able to get them back without an extensive search of the surrounding area...

"Just launch a rescue now Greentoes, we have the forces needed to take many more their number." said Kylken, causing Greentoes to jump.

"Aye, but they may execute our lads during the battle, an' I wont allow that. We need to deal with this stealthily Kylken, I know Hermatus is all fer rushin' right in, but its too risky right now!"

"Whatever you deem best Greentoes, battle is battle where Hermatus is concerned."

"Of course. Jus' need ta come up with a plan, thas' all."

"I'll leave you to it then Greentoes..."

The room fell into silence and Kylken left shortly after. Bah! Being a mayor is tough sometimes, need to save his men, need to honour Hermatus, need to obey Kylken. It should be over soon though, at least that was something good.

The boat was pushed off from the shore once more. This time to search the lake, which seemed mostly devoid of fish. This troubled Yammish greatly, perhaps some poison was leaking out from underground, or maybe some terrible predator lurked just under the surface... No no, best not to dwell on it, he was a dwarf of science! Whether it be poison or monster, he'll find it and document it.

Jencull let out a relieved sigh. The migrants had come and so he could start another expedition. Plus, due to excellent farming on behalf of his workers, he wasnt going to run out of syrup anytime soon. Things just seemed to be getting better, and despite the night howls, the creatures here hadnt attacked since their first encounter.

The swordsdwarfs hurried out of the fortress at Greentoe's orders. Eight in total, armed with bronze shortswords and wearing bronze splint mail, rushed off to the northeast. A caravan had been seen leaving the camp and nobody could be sure if their men were with them or not. Greentoes had decided it best not to risk it and ordered an attack. Crossbows were out of the question, they couldnt risk hitting their own troops, still, their splint mail should offer at least some protection against enemy bolts. Better protection than studded leather at least.
