Pearlrings(Succession game): charred_gp's turn.
« on: August 24, 2010, 01:28:49 am »

So yes. This is a succession game.
Each turn lasts the usual amount for succession games, 1 year(I think)
The entire area is savage and a small bit of it at the edge is evil
Also, there is a aquifer on some of the map.
Players:
1. fivex(Done 1)
2. zlurker(Skipped)
3. ottottott (Done 1 2)
4. Kregoth (Done 1 2 3 4 5 6)
5. TauQuebb(Skipped)
6. charred_gp(Active)
7. cappstv
8. LAAT501legion
9.
10.
11.
12.
13.
And... the rest of the numbers will appear here as people join.
People who don't at least say "I'm working on it" for two days after the last turn are skipped.

I would like to join! Name me Ott! Find a male dwarf for me. I prefer mining, mechanics, engraving, masonry and all metalsmithing in that order. So find the dwarf best suiting for me.

As of writing, we have finally decided on a spot to start a fortress! Yes. Right here, right beside a brook. Soon, our miner will begin mining out out fortress! Isn't this somewhat exciting?

As you can see here, our farm plots are being flooded! The floodgate system here was set up graciously by our Mason and mechanic, Ott! To the right, our miner(Zlurker) has began mining out our storage room. Unseen here, Ott is making some tables and such for a dining room, and our woodworker is making some beds for our bedrooms.
From here, nothing really eventful happens ...

Other then two people come here in summer. One demands that he be the leader of my military.
I make him the leader of my otherwise empty military.

The miner acidently mined out a wall that caused the farm to irreversibly flood! But thats okay. It was just a accident. Its not like its hard to set up a new farm or anything
Later, in autumn

Some migrants arrive!
A carpenter, a bowyer, a engraver, and a miller.
These people could be useful!
The image and text underneath this appears to be made hastily...

There was this... Giant... flying... skeleton outside. It killed two dogs and a horse foal, which was alerting enough for me to order all dwarves inside and make a wall preventing it from getting in in case those weapon traps full of giant corkscrews wasn't enough to kill it.

The next image... just isn't there?
There... there was another skeleton thing. This time it was a goat...
Considering what the last skeleton did, I ordered everyone inside and walled the way in.
And... my time leading this is over, as it is next year. I advise the next leader to wait until that thing is gone before unwalling the way in.

Relatively uneventful year, other then skeleton creatures.

Undead things! Woohoo! The undead are really slow though if I remember correctly. Can't wait for my turn.

Yay my turn to fail horribly! I mean keep us all alive. Yes. o_o Just downloaded the game file so I'll probably start posting my turn in a bit.

EDIT: How do I take screencaps? Never done it before with DF.

EDIT2: Well for now I've resorted to taking printscreens and clipping them. Messy but at least it works. Also is there something you forbid the dorfs from using fivex? I've got a constant stream of 'so-and-so can't drop off item in stockpile/barrel' assaulting me. D:

Click on the game window, press alt+prnt scrn(Or print screen or something, depending on your OS), open paint and press ctrl+v and save.
There are probably other ways, but that is how I did it.

You are thinking of zombies. The other type of undead, skeletons... are quite fast

I restricted them to a burrow inside.
Press m, then s, select the only burrow and press enter to unrestrict them.

Well I don't want them going outside. Will that happen if I unrestrict them from the burrow?

If you don't remove the wall and unrestrict the burrow, they can't go outside.
Also, you should expand the burrow using w either way. I made it in a way it doesn't even cover the entire first or second floor

You can also use a third party program that can dump a screenshot into a folder you designate without having to paste every time you use "Prt Scr" such as fraps. If your using windows 7 i found out i had to select monitor windows aero in the options in oder for it to work with DF so make to to be in Full screen mode to take the shot if not it will get your whole desktop making you have to edit it anyway lolz

Don't forget when making burrows it works in a 3D environment Start from whatever corner you want and end at the others even if its 6 z levels down it will get everything path-able inside it.

Argh I can't get myself to dig downwards to the next level. This has got to be the single most annoying problem I have with the game. >.o I have stairs down set up but the ones going back up aren't being made.

Why not just make spiral ramps it easy and quicker for the dwarf to move around in. and are you sure your making up/down stairs and not just down?
