Not a whole lot to report at the start of the year. I set out to do some mining on the level below where we're currently chilling out to see if I could find a few more gemstones for our carvers to work with and on the 9th of Granite Ustuth engraved a masterpiece! Also had the others set up a crafts shop and jewelry thing-a-mabob so that our gem people have something to do with their time. Oh, and I put our miller to work making some drinks since the reports only said 20 left. The digging resulted in some tigereye, agate and bauxite but hit a snag on some damp stone. Hopefully this can be worked around. Then, on the 7th of Slate, we got a bunch more migrants! Not entirely sure how many but these are the ones I know we didn't have earlier; Carpenter, Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Blacksmith, x2 Gemsetters, Weaver and one Glassmaker. Sadly none of them were particularly handy at this current time so I put them to work hauling crap around. Except for the cutter. He became my 'apprentice', heh heh heh. :| In happier news, Ineth our jeweler and Inod the carpenter were married on the 27th of Slate! The party was attended by just about everyone. Having had to open the wall to let our new migrants in I decided to drop about six stonefall traps and leave it exposed for the time being since there haven't been any skeleton thingies hanging around. And no one goes outside anyways. And then on the 14th of Felsite we had some elven gents bring their caraven down to our little hellhole! Managed to trade away a metric f-ton of crafts for food, barrels, alcohol and a cage or two just on the off-chance a Dungeon Master graces us with his presence. At some point another 17 migrants showed up, bringing us to 32 dorfs, though I honestly didn't see any warning of their arrival. o_O That was pretty much it for spring. A pic of the tunneling I did on the next z-level:
http://img833.imageshack.us/i/dfpic2.jpgSummer started with our wonderful elf friends leaving and me mining out some of the native gold uncovered during the earlier dig along with a few gems to keep our gemcutters busy for a little longer. But then the 7th of Hematite came and we had what I think was our first feymood happen to Geshud, one of our weavers, and he quickly claimed a clothing thingy to use--then began screaming for cloth and thread. Only having one shop of said type I put for another to be built and just hope the idiot doesn't go batty in the meantime. And then I find out neither of those can be made. Crap! Oh well, we got another weaver and it's not like they're doing much to start. Figured I'd make a place to put down some smithing shops so I worked to tunnel out the next level down from the mining spree level, found a little bitumenous coal which should be helpful at some point. Added some more beds and tables to make up for our wonderful moochers. I mean migrants. As of the 26th of Hematite yet more migrants showed up bringing our population to 41. And I thought I was finally catching up on beds. >.o Found more coal than I was expecting, though, so I set up a little 'depot' for it below where I intend to place the smithing area. Apparently we got a butcher in the last migration so I put down a kitchen/butchershop near the dining area for the time being. Sadly I was right about the guy who went feymood; on the 21st of Hemotite he finally went bonkers and wanders the halls with his pants on his head. Autum has a arrived! But unfortunately we're having a little flooding problem on the area I was making for the smithing stuff. Shouldn't be too hard to fix though. And with that I'm done for now! How some pics:
