Also do not eat the canned food, when you run out of perishable food you should probably leave the grocery store with the cans.

You can see the expiration date on food before you eat it, try to eat food before it expires, it's worth more... also if you leave it too long after it's expired it goes bad, which can make you sick when you eat it, but it's still a viable food source.

I'm sort of curious how the game determines food expiration date, I've never found groceries that were already spoiled, even on day 10 (I have found food that expired that same day though) yet on day 1 all the food I find expires on day 2.  Does it automatically set the expiration time of all foods upon entering a district, rather than upon the game starting?

Civilians when entering a district often times carry groceries. They just die so fast they don't even get a chance to eat them. It also appears that when all the groceries are created, some expire faster than others, probably some RNG thing. Also, remember when simulating that if its default that it only simulates at 33%, so in reality when you enter a district only 1/3 your total game time has passed there.

I wrote this in the morning. Groceries expire with your time, so simulation doesn't matter.

Made it to day 14. After you get to a certain point, with a good home base you can sort of make it a lot longer.

Found a great base with a basement with a bed that I could sleep it. Piled cars around the only entrance so that lesser zombies couldn't get in. Everything was going well until my follower died of starvation and I had to kill his zombie. Seemed like somehow they found my base because of that because 2 zombie masters got in and the cars were surrounded by other zombies. Decided that my base wasn't safe anymore and went to find a new one, rounded a corner and got stuck between the zombies who were chasing me and some new zombie gangsters and a dark zombie got me after I killed another dark zombie.

OK, thanks to how the citizens now behave, I am considered a murderer despite the fact I killed two civvies that broke down my cades' in 'my' grocery shop. It'll be fun dealing with cops.
