Batteries or a method of recharging them should be implemented sometimes, 1/6 trackers I find are depleted, and when they aren't they only have enough life for a few turns of tracking.

I'm on day 22 with my current character, I'm surprised I've managed to survive this long without dying, I've got a huge stash of guns and ammo, mostly shotgun shells, unfortunately all the shelves in the store I hid out in have been destroyed, and the zombies are everywhere, I've blocked off the entrances to the center of the district with cars, the northen exits have been blocked off  by zombies hordes and skeletons But the zombie masters just keep coming, I think I'm going to grab all the ammo I can and just make a run for somewhere else. This isn't working out, it's gotten too hard to defend, the masters keep breaking through the barricades at night, and survivors keep wandering into the center area and dying, perhaps I'm better off moving to somewhere less populated.
EDIT: ok, black ops killed me, but I'm going to start saving/loading now, pity I only saved when I left.

EDIT2: Ok, black ops are everywhere, three vans drove up into the district I'm in right now, and I swear, a prince of darkness appeared out of thin air RIGHT in front of me.

This. Turn them on for one turn, look at the minimap to see where they are. Then turn the thing off and avoid that part of the district. Trust me, battery life may be short, but even a short battery life includes a lot of "single-turn uses".  ;)

I recieved the mission to go to the CHAR underground base, when the prisoner not to be became a zombie prince, it assraped all the other prisoners and then died in a hail of gunfire from the police officers upstairs.

Tip: the underground base is divided into four quadrants, each of which contains a certain kind of gear.

The vans driving into your district are other survivors, they help you. 

About charging anything that requires batteries, I think any structure that has a generator should have some method of charging instruments.  As far as I can remember that includes:  subway station, hospital, and bunny hole.

Vans are survivors, cars are gangstas, motorcycles are bikers, army choppers are guardsmen/drops/black ops.

Civilians still arrive every night but in the late game you'll get a van honking and arriving in your district.  The survivors are just that, they have a lot of skills, army armor, guns, and come in groups.

They seem to replace the national guard actually, I eventually stopped seeing soldiers, presumably they all died.  Speaking of army gear, why is it that army body armor seems to break so easily, I've bben playing this character for 40 days, and never had a single CHAR body armor break, but every time I grab the army stuff it seems to break within 10 minutes?

Yeah eventually they stop sending national guard and just send the eraser squads.  Survivors are much better than the national guard, they've saved my character's ass a few times.
