Crossbreeding
« on: August 21, 2010, 06:03:22 am »

Is it possible to breed different animal races with eachother or a flag that will let the two breed?  I've got a few female lions and a single GIANT lion, I would like them to make some babies.

I think not... though you could mess around with the caste system to make them breedable, but you would lose the creature as a signle entity.

Also, this would require regenning the world.

There are many issues with this statement.

Crossbreeding between different species is impossible. Yet.
In some of threetoes stories, there is crossbreeding mentioned.

Maybe we will get crossbreeding between species?

He said a few female lions and a single giant lion.

If the normal lions are female...

He is talking about taking a creature out of the raws and making it a caste of another creature entry. That means you would change the number of entries, and you WOULD have to regen the world as far as I know.

I haven't done much testing in this version yet but in 40d if you changed the number of creature entries (or any other entry iirc) it caused all sorts of craziness.

... I dunno about that. I caught earlier my Dwarf mayor in bed with the Elven ambassador.
.. I do't think the results would be ... necessarily that good.

Engraved on the monitor is an exceptionally designed image of FPS in Dwarf Fortress and it's multicore support by Toady. Toady is raising the multicore. The artwork relates to the masterful multicore support by Toady for the Dwarf Fortress in midwinter of 2010. Toady is surrounded by dwarves. The dwarves are rejoicing.

For elven beards!

Elves already have beards.  (At least, male elves.)

Beards are the only sexual dimorphism in this game for humanoids... there aren't even differences in height and weight between the genders.
