If you weren't stuck with a 56k connection, I'd recommend Mechwarrior 4 from MekTek. If your laptop is less then 5 years old, it should play very well, but its a 2gig download.

A gba emulator is probably your best shot, seeing as the gba has both innovative games and low specs. Shooters like half life and quake will probably run on your underpowered rig as well if you have them.

The hardest part is your 56k internet, seeing as you have to actually download these things. Wherein the world do they even offer internet that slows anymore? My phone gets better than that. For the future, you probably should consider download these things in advance, even on dsl downloads are a pain in the neck to deal with.

Alien Assault was a Space Hulk clone but they had IP problems and changed it somewhat. Still very Space Hulk. If you don't know SH it's turn based, you have a squad of guys in sci-fi armour with different weapons and you are up against hordes of aliens, much like the film aliens, the levels have different objectives and can be quite difficult.

Also, it's free, but I do agree with you. With these new FiOS cables you figure they could afford to give us something a bit better. It's nearly the only hotel that allows dogs, though, so I'm pretty much stuck here until monday. Hell it's something like 50 bucks a month for 25mb/s up and down here.
