  On second thought,swift running would have been a better idea.

  "Come on, now, do I look like a demon to you?" I said, raising my hands in a gesture of benevolence. She didn't buy it, opting instead to try and run me through with the blade. Luckily I wasn't corrupted enough anymore for the Holy steel to be anything but normal steel, but there's a reason they were used as weapons of war!

  "Woah!" I dodged left, slapping my palm on the flat of the blade. She retracted, then lashed at my left side, cutting a small gouge in my robes. The blade caught, probably some small burr from improper care. I pressed the advatage without going for my own sword, laying down a couple of slaps to disorient her while I kicked at her legs. Yes I hit a girl. It's impolite, I know, but so is trying to kill someone.

  She fell flat on her ass, but someone trained this girl well, and she rolled back, letting the sword go, raising her fists into a boxing position. As she probably expected, the sword slipped from my robes when I moved, and I wasn't able to stop her lunge to grab the blade. We ended up in the exact same position we were in before, save a bit more sweat on both sides.

  I took advantage of the lull. "What the bloody hell are you doing? I said I wasn't a demon!"

  She spat at me. Dumbass. "Demons lie. First lesson taught in church." She said, fire in her voice.

  "Well, I'm not. Look at my wings! Demons and devils have black and red wings!"

  "Like I'd be fooled by a bit of silver paint." She lashed out with the blade again. It was easy enough to block her attacks at my level of power, but our polite conversation wasn't going anywhere fast, and if we stuck around we'd draw some attention. I may be able to take a well trained human, or a minor demon without any help, but any devil worth his sulfur would still beat me soundly. I had to get out fast.

Convince or kill?

Getting out of her reach would be best. Also, tell her that if you were a demon, why aren't you attacking her with intent? Why bother talking at all?

Fight dirty, Sand in her eyes, damage the building, throw the furniture at her, whatever it takes to distract her and put her off-balance. When she leaves a limb unguarded, grab her by it and throw her. Once she drops the sword, grab it and hold it to ransom.

Convince, if there are more like her then knowing more about them could be useful...

  In hindsight, it was probably the most obvious solution. I was appaled I didn't think of it before. Too much time underground, I guess, even though that still doesn't make sense; Hell has enough large caverns that you never really lose your edge.

  Still, I didn't think until that minute of dodging up, as opposed to, say, side to side. I was fighting like a human, which was probably how she got the advantage on that demon I forgot to suck up before he sunk back to get re-incarnated. There was no doubt in my mind he wasn't going to turn up later.

  Floating out of reach of her holy blade, I managed to have a chance to talk diplomacy with this madwoman.

  "BITCH!" I admit, not one of my better opening lines. I was rusty, what do you expect from me?

  "Shut the fuck up you damned demon! The power of christ compells you!" she screeched, waving the sword about in the air. I cringed, stung. I did notice it wasn't a burning sensation anywhere but my face, though. I tried not to blush.

  "That's not how you speak to your betters."

  "Better my ass!"

  "I..."

  "YOU ASSHOLE! GET DOWN HERE SO I CAN RIP YOUR THROAT OUT!"

  I blinked. "Be polite, human."

  "I'll be fucking polite when you're all fucking dead, you ass-sniffing fucktard!" I had to applaud her use of language there. It's not easy stringing curses like that in french.

  I waved a finger at her. "Language. Didn't your pappy ever teach you not to- OUCH!" The bitch bit my finger. She just latched on like a dog. What followed was a maelstrom of flailing, sobbing, begging, and a bit of bloodshed.

  Luckily I managed to get a hold on the damn sword, even though she never lost hers. We were face to face, I could feel her hot breath on my face. It smelt like oatmeal, and whatever else she ate for the past week. I always had a very sensitive nose.

  "Let go, Demon." She crooned, trying in vain to pry my fingers loose from the silver. "I'll make all the pain end for you. I can do that. Just let go..."

  "Let's face it lady. You suck at negotiation." She scowled. "Did you really think I'd just drop this and say 'kill me now'?"

  She spat at me. I didn't dare take my hand of the sword to wipe it off, and my other hand was occupied holding hers a safe distance from my eyes. She sniffed, looking haughty and disgusted.

  "Don't sniff at me, young lady."

  "Young lady?! I'm almost fourty-three!"

  "And I'm 6400 years old. You're pretty damn young."

  "Why should I trust you?"

  "If I was really still a demon, why would I be making smalltalk?"

  She thought for a second. "Still?"

  "Yeah. I defected. I just want all this to end. I want to be left alone, and not assaulted by little witches like you!" We struggled for the blade a bit.

  "Why would you defect if you were a demon?"

  "Why not?"

  "... That isn't a answer!"

  I sighed. During our little conversation both of us had slacked our grip on the blade, and now I let go, confident she wouldn't attack me. For once, I was right.

  "I'll... It's a hard topic, and a long story. We'll need more time; something we aren't likely to get in the middle of a burning ruin."

  She tied her hair back in a bandanna and said "I know a safehouse, or as safe as we get. But..." She looked at me, grinning evilly. "You may not like the location, Demon."

  "They call me Az." I extended a hand, which she shook. But the question remained; Was it safe going with her? Even if she didn't kill me, which I wasn't certain she wouldn't, she may have friends there that would, such as angels. After Peter got his ass whooped thanks to the Crystal, I was certain God would be sending everything he had to stop this debacle, and that meant Gabriel and the other archangels, maybe even a seraph, if he was feeling confident of his own safety.

  I didn't want to go anywhere near a Seraph. I'd be decapitated before I could even blink. Still, a safehouse was a good idea...

I agree with following her and the point into bone. We need more defense if a human can make us whimper from a bite on the finger.

Follow her, but do it cautiously and stay hidden if you see any other humans until you can hear her explain what you are.

Actually, I think I may want to rename those stats to something more... neutral. What do you guys think?

Blood -> Brawn

Bone -> Steel

Flesh -> Will

Ash -> Skill

Divinity remains Divinity.

  I decided to follow her back to her safehouse. It wasn't like I wasn't dead meat already, anways.

  She led me over to a beat-up corvette, a cherry red model. I didn't recognize the make, but I did recognize the rumble when she started it up. It was new, and damn fast to boot.

  She smiled and pounded the gas pedal, launching us forward. We zipped up through some hill country before eventually stumbling across the ruins of a massive cathedral in the midst of a small, nameless city. The glass was cracked, and the place looked like it must have been one of the first hit when the invasion began, but a hymn still rose out of the sooty, broken windows. Here, in the midst of the destruction, humanity fought on.

  "Welcome to the S.H.I.E.L.D Headquarters," She said, grinning.

  I watched the cathedral approach, noticing that the fence had been upgraded into a steel wall. The windows, despite the best efforts to barricade them, were still cracked and broken, but those were blocked by wooden crosses and other such holy artifacts.

  As we drove through, I noticed that someone had hung a peice of paper over the entrance. On it was enscribed the holy symbols of all the religions of man. Even at my neutral level, the holy effect was chilling. I could see even the woman was shaken by the artifact, such was it's power.

  Eventually we were at the gate. I sensed a presence inside, something big, and dangerous. I couldn't tell if it was foe or ally, but I knew it was way, way above my level. Now would be my final chance to escape. Once I was inside, there was no getting out.
