We have managed to avoid drowning

...On the account of the map being frozen. Can't say I've seen this before though.

See how the river is "broken"? It also happens to be about 10 levels above the ground, so I guess I dodged a pretty Fun bullet there, although there are few small peaks just above the river, which might have made this an interesting map to play in any case.

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.
Ashes are technically fire-safe.

I know that this can happen if you've got a duplicate creature error. Trippy. If I were you, I'd wall that off before the Spring thaw.

Burning and raping the land is recreational. Where business is concerned, though, sustainability is the name of the game.

You've managed to avoid drowning?...

Good job!

This is amazing. I actually hope it's NOT a freezing biome, just so we can see what that river does when it thaws.

It is, unfortunately. Would messing with the temperature values of that world gen still create the same terrain?

Seen this in 40d though. It happens alot in brooks in freezing biomes.

I'm gonna have to say "definitely maybe." There are a lot of variables involved, not the least of which is whether or not this is a glitch like the Adamantine Spire. However, it occurs to me that dfliquids from the DFHack library (which lets you place magma and obsidian) should permit warming of the brook to override the biome.

Theoretically.

For science.
