How did he climb there?
« on: August 20, 2010, 10:25:09 am »

Slowly and calmly building a quiet fort, invasion off. I'm overstocked with booze and lavish meals.

all of a sudden I get this message:

Searching for the corpse I found it on top of some walls:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

How did that kid climb up there?

Walls were built in the normal way: no ramps or stairs involved. Just building on the swamp ground. I can't see how that kid got up there.

I'm using SethCreiyd's Fauna and Flora mod, you can see in the screenshot geese and ducks flying around the top of the wall. Is it possible they somehow dragged that poor kid there?

Is there a raising drawbridge across that moat of yours? Maybe he was standing on it and got flung?
Not entirely sure how that works.

From what I know, dwarves can only be flung on the same z level, not up or down.

No combat reports (apart from some hunting)
Bridge not linked to a lever yet (invaders off)

I have heard that creatures can teleport Z-levels when fighting enemies not on the same level as them, as dodging or charging at an enemy can cause you to end up on the enemy's Z-level even if there was no way to get there.  He might have got into a fight with those geese or ducks and dodged onto the wall.

Could something prevent the combat report from showing up?

I have wild geese and heron on this map, but no reports of fighting.

Could path finding with flying creature around cause this effect? A bit like dodging but just trying to move around.

This reminds me of the sort-of famous story of the dwarf who was constantly followed by a tamed Giant Eagle. When he died, his clothing ended up on the roof of one of the fort's biggest buildings.

Evidently Armok has reincarnated him, then killed him again.

It's not an embark so much as seven dwarves having a simultaneous strange mood and going off to build an artifact fortress that menaces with spikes of awesome and hanging rings of death.

I constantly get enemies on top of my walls (without a way up). I'm guessing whatever happened to them (dodge, maceblow?) happened to your child.

I think blunt only sends you about 8 ft up, as you don't actually move z-levels. I don't know if you can be hit across a canyon that way though.
