Human caravan from Gil Thinir arrived.

The merchants need a trade depot to unload their goods.

Human caravan from Gil Thinir no longer requires a trade depot to unload their goods.

.....it is posts like these that make me remember why I play this game. LOL!

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Some migrants have arrived. Poor fools.

I can't find the lever that opens the gate. I'm not even entirely sure where exactly the gate is.

They're going to starve to death. Kind of ironic, really. Queen Led's plan is working - dwarves turn up here, and then they die.

19th Slate, 532

Oh, no, wait, they're not going to starve to death. They're going to be eviscerated by the local wilddeath.

I see they've met the welcoming committee. Always such thoughtful fellows.

This is looking very nice so far, despite the dauntingness of the task!

So the dwarves have taken to naming artifacts after themeselves now. Interesting. But more interesting however...

This grate depicts Lur Thiefwitch. Most interesting. Most interesting indeed.

1st Granite, 533

I've realised something.

I think I should have realised it at lot sooner.

Each of us, dwarves, elves, humans, even goblins, we are individuals. We have our own preferred hairstyles, preferences for colours and materials, dreams and desires, hopes and fears. We have our own aptitudes, our own talents, our own skills. And yet, none of that matters, in the grand scheme of things, until we come to places like this. In the Mountainhomes, we sleepwalk through life waiting to be sent to somewhere like this. None of what we are truly matters until it is tested. We are brought to this place, sometimes kicking and screaming, and yet we never truly come alive until we are here.

Across the ages, I've lived as many, many dwarves, but also humans, elves, goblins - even great creatures with the heads of wolves in a few universes. I've lived and died a thousand times, but I've never realised this one truth.

These places, these monuments of hardship, suffering and sacrifice - they are not a curse. They are a gift. Because only in surviving in them do we learn who we truly are.

I am at peace.

Just got the email PM notification. I've waited so long for this... it really caught me by surprise.

Downloading now. Pray to the dwarven gods I don't royally mess up, because I most probably will.

Ah well. That's what Dwarf Fortress is all about. :D

This is a sort of prelude.

Journal of Arvada the Enchanter

1st Granite
It has happened. Andreus, our mayor for the past year, has finally resigned. And no-one knows who will be the next mayor.

This night I felt the walls between the worlds thinning. Something is coming. Something unknowably dark is coming. This is the Doom. As I watched the stars above us, one winked out.

Somehow, the greatest powers are converging on this hell hole of a fortress. For what reason, I do not know. But it remains plain that somehow, this place is fated to be the centerpoint in some great battle that is part of the destiny of this world. I must escape before that happens. Somehow, I need to gather the materials needed to create an arcane portal between the worlds, and escape.

3rd Granite
I have decided to take up the mantel of Mayor of Failcannon. We still have not found anyone else willing, and it is probably the best way to get what I need - adamantine for one. An adamant sword should do nicely. Properly enchanted, it can cut a path across the dimensions for me. Other materials I will need as well, but Failcannon shall - must - provide.

But first, I need to figure out a good way to convince the rowdy dwarves to get me my adamantine. I must think on this. There has to be some way...
