Also it won't work.
I won't bother with it then.
Or, better idea: Drop the goblins into the ocean of slime, so they can fight the FBs.
Not too many FBs left. Most of them is either rotten, dead or both.

That's probably the most boring idea I've ever seen.
Unless he builds an entire shaft of bridges leading to lava/FB lake/both that continously flings goblins, trolls and elves around.
I always wanted a giant pinball machine where the ball is the goblin seige force that attacked you.
bonus points if you install windows so dwarfs can watch be scared to death despite there being no way for the goblins to path to them and a special front row seat for your nobility, who'll be flung into the machine themselves once the goblins pinball hits a special bullseye target.

Double fix'd.

I assume by "target" you mean "bottom of the shaft", right?

"Bulls-eye" means "the ground covered with pressure plates hooked up to do ideas above."

Journal of Takua Bimzasit:

Hematite:

...
I have started to improve Failcannon's walls (it will get usefull after getting lava on the surface). Dwarfs are still retrieving caged prisoners, so it can take a while.
...

Another beast. Where do they come from?
And why every single one of them is poisonous?
...

Malachite:
...
We didn't reloaded all of the cage traps yet. We don't have enough space for all of the prisoners, se we started to store them at our graveyards (no, we didn't killed them, they just sit in their cages next to some coffins).
...

This is impossible.
I just saw some horses. Non-undead, non-tamed, just a bunch of horses.
First living wild animals I have seen in years.
...
I had a conversation with Uristein Bekarkadol today.
He was made responsible for job coordination at the Failpump. He says he's a scientist (he says it's !!Scientist!!, but I have no idea what could that mean), so he should be able to manage such project.
-I have some bad news.-said Uristein
-What bad news?
-It seems, that we're running out of wood.
-Yeah. And?
-We need wood to finish the Failpump.
-Why? We can get power to the pumps using gears.
-I'm not talking about axles. I'm talking about water wheels.
-What water wheels?
-The ones in the reactor. When it comes to the water wheels, wood is the only choice.
-The reactor... I completely forgot about it. Hmm... I know where we can find some wood.
...
We're going to break to one of the caverns. If I remember correctly, there are few beasts in there.
Let's train some more military.
...

10 migrants arrived today. They should make things quicker.
...

Galena:
...

A human caravan has arrived. They have managed to get inside without getting killed by the zombie horses.
...

Limestone:
...

Kadol has claimed a mason's workshop. I hope he will give us something usefull.
...

A table? Good enough.
...

Sandstone:
...

Another wave of migrants arrived today. 8 of them this time.
...

Timber:
...

Another forgoten beast. We have like 151 of them now.
...

A caravan from the Queen has arrived.
I told one of the merchants to give her a letter from me.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

Moonstone:

...
Nothing interesting happened this month.
...

Opal:
...

-Uristein?
-Yes?
-Can you tell me why do we have a dead dwarf at the bottom of failpump's shaft?
-Well... I told him to dig it out. So he did. He dug out th ebottom half. Then, he started to dig towards it from the above.
-He what?
-I told him it's a bad idea to do so.
-Well, at least his death will be an example for the others...
A dwarf has arrived.
-We have some miners at the hospital. They say they dug out the bottom of the Failpump's shaft, and then...
-You can't be serious...
...

Obsidian:
...
Uristein calculated, that our reactor won't be able to power all of the pumps. I have ordered him to designate some additional space for the pumps.
...

Another two beasts... seriously, we need to get rid of them.
...

Goblins!

Fortunatelly, they don't learn on their mistakes.
More prisoners? Great.
...
I had a... strange conversation today.
Mayor called me to his office.
-Is it ready yet?- he asked.
-What is ready yet?
-The Failpump. Can it work yet?
-Of course not. It's far from being finished.
-Then you will be an Overseer for another year.
-What? Why?
-You said you're the only one who knows how to make it work.
-Yes, but...
-I made my decision then.
It seems, that i'm stuck at this job for a year more.
Just great...

I'm surprised at our lack of macabre and fell moods our dwarfs are almost universally unhappy.

Damn, why doesn't anybody ever use my cage trap in any of the forts I built it in as it was intended to (capturing merchants) and NOT simply as a long corridor lined with insta'kill' cages?  ::)

Because capturing then and planing a slaughter is much more FUN!

If you have a long line of cage traps, you use them. There is no point in wasting valuable resources in order to build other system if we already have an eficient method of eliminating sieges.

Indeed it was.

I propose making a goblin theme park of sorts that sorts out goblins at random and sends them down different paths to various modes of death, all of which of course must pass the dwarven amusement test. :P

I have a problem.
The Failpump's water reactor is placed deep underground.
In order to make it possible to stop it, I have designed some tunnels underneath the reactor's channels and connected them using floor hatches.
Now, the reactor can be turned off. Unfortunately, this means, that I need to refill it every time I want it back on. I have found a good spot to dig into the aquifer above it.
Also, to get the reactor's power to the Failpump itself, I have designed some tunnels with gear assemblies above the reactor's pumps.
The problem is, that if the water will be presurized, it will flood half of the failpump, and if it won't be, it will (propably) take way longer to fill the entire reactor (it's quite big, by the way). Is there any way to connect gear assemblies so water that flows trough them gets depressurized? If not, will it take longer for the water to spread if it's depressurized?

On a totally unrelated note: Portal 2. Best. Ending. Ever.

You could try to make a 'sprinkler system' type of mechanism for filling the reservoir; Have a sealed off row of water that gets pressurized, with depressurization holes towards the reservoir (So that the whole 'sprinkler head' would fill quickly, then the rest would fill up faster off of it.)
