A fate worse than death... (startling new evidence)
« on: November 29, 2007, 07:46:00 pm »

I abandoned a fortress because I forgot to spend points on equipment. I'd never reclamed a fortress before, so I thought I'd do it just for kicks. When I got there, my dwarfs were greeted by a group of 'U's and '@'s; all seven of the original settlers had become human!

That's a new one on me.  I once generated a map (actually three maps in a row) with no dwarven civilizations, so all of my forts were human.  But that was a permanent condition - no change when reclaiming.  Can't figure out why you'd see dwarves transmuting into humans (I'm assuming, of course, that you made no changes to the raws)...

Sorry, didn't think to take a screenshot (I just assumed you all trusted me  :( ).

Nothing that should have done this. I just edited the language files.

@ symbol can be any race, right?  U is the humans, thats weird though.  Maybe humans just took you over, do they have dwarven names?

Can you check their profile with "v"?

IIRC the @ symbol is also used for melancholy/insane dwarves, so they may have gone nuts and are now wandering around your fortress site which is even cooler.

Clearly they shouldn't have built a fortress on top of a temple to Xel'latoth.
