Journal of Shorast Gatelight: 27th of Granite - 1051 - Early Spring

We arrived at the entrance to the canyon, our wagon covered in the winter snow.
We were sent here by our glorious king in order to fortify our borders from encroaching threats and to show the glory of our people; I only hope we do not disappoint. The winters here seem to run long, even though it is spring the snow still lingers on the ground; the brook still frozen over and my 6 brethren complain about the cold, but I cannot blame them.

Surveying the land I can see why the king sent us here, the canyon walls are rich with gems, metal and various minerals ranging from bauxite to lignite. Naturally the miners have begun to dig into the side of the mountain for our lodging, I had not ordered it but we are all tired of the cold so no one has complained.

In an ironic sense just as basic lodgings were finished the snow has started to melt away, but the brook is still frozen.

I will provide more detail in my next report if I survive long enough.

Methinks this would fit better in the Community Games and Stories forum.

I like it so far.

Journal of Shorast Gatelight: 22nd of Hematite - 1051 - Early Summer

The dwellings for the workers are still underway, as well as a farm for supplying our food have been dug out; however the farm still needs to be irrigated, I expect this to happen shortly. We have made some progress by digging out a temporary dining room in our artificial cave, the mason is currently making chairs for us to sit in, I hope he finishes soon for I can't spend all my time eating on the ground.

In the building of the fortress proper the miners have begun carving a chunk out of the mountain, I assume they are squaring it up for when we build the first walls.

Not many events have passed since my last entry, hopefully it stays calm till we have a proper defense.

I want the farmer! :D (can he also be a brewer?)  Mainly because I am addicted to creating obscene food stockpiles in my forts...

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

Your not playing Dwarf Fortress right if you don't see a message saying a Kitten (tame) had died in some horrible manner over and over again.

It would. OP, you can move it yourself with the bar in the bottom right corner of the page. Even if you're discussing game mechanics and whatnot, it's still a community fort and fits better there.

Done, done and done
luckily for you my farmer was already a brewer.

I was thinking of running this for a year than giving it up to the next person in line, make it a true community fort... or should I just keep control of it and give dwarves out?
